The Official and Very Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thread

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

^"Wasn't John Saxon in this movie?" :p

I agree that Crow's time traveling antics in "Time Chasers" are great.

Although, as far as host segments go, I still say my favorites are Pearl's fake PBS pledge drive in "Overdrawn at the Memory Bank" and the 'Bots asking Joel to explain "The Pina Colada Song" in "Monster A-Go-Go."

As for my favorite "It's funny because it makes no damn sense at all" host segment, that goes to the Cinematic Titanic film "Legacy of Blood" when Josh enters a game show to determine which household item won't kill him. (They make him choose between a lamp with a frayed cord in a puddle of water, a giant medieval suit of armor, and a KISS pinball machine.)

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

"You mean....if you like pina coladas? Getting lost in the rain? If you're not into health food, and you have half a brain? If you like making love at midnight in the dunes of the cape?"

"Yeah!"

"Alright, well....okay...."

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

In other news, yesterday marked the 22nd Anniversary of the first airing of Mitchell, and to this day it remains one of the funniest and best-written episodes of the series with some of the most memorable riffs and host segments. Relatively few MST3Ks come close to what we'd consider perfect riffs, but this is one of them.

Now, buzz off, kid!!!

Mitchell - great stuff.

And she's an acrobat.

Johnny Nash? Get my gun!

Hey!! . . . What?? (gunshot), Oh!! :guffaw:

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

I smell crab dip!

You want a beer? Some of them got cigarette butts in 'em.

It's a very special Joe Don Baker Christmas....

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

MST3K fans might want to check Kickstarter this morning. :)

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

I haven't been this excited about the MST3K universe and movie riffing since the '90s. And that includes the great work done by Rifftrax and Cinematic Titanic! We might be getting new MST3K for the first time in more than sixteen years!

 :)  :techman:

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

I dunno. Thing is.... I don't need it back. I have Rifftrax. I don't need to robots, the host-segments, the Mads or any of that. If this project succeeds, great! But, meh. Rifftrax is enough for me.

Mostly because I "trust" Mike, Kevin and Bill to make me laugh as they're pretty much the definitive "experts" in doing this considering how long they *have* been doing it. I'll likely contribute to the KS, but I dunno. I don't need it. There's currently more RT episodes than there are MST3K ones. so I've got two full series worth of great, humorous, material.

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

I need Tom Servo and Crow in my life. I think I actually owe them money at this point, the show pretty much created my sense of humor.

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

Whoa! It's finally coming to pass! A new series!

A minimum goal of 2 million within the next 30 days for 1 new episode and if they reach 5.5 mil', they can produce 12.

They've already broke 1 million dollars! Once the word really starts spreading, I feel confident they'll reach that 5.5M goal by early December.

I can understand Trekker's POV. If one just want's the heckling, yeah, RiffTrax more than succeeds. But like Possum and Gep, I fell in love with the 'Bots and I love the host segments! That's something RT doesn't offer. Certainly there's room enough for both venues?

Uh, was that Trace voicing Crow once again? It kinda' sounded like him. I'm pretty certain someone new performed Servo. Josh "Elvis" Weinstein, maybe? That'll take some adjustment, but we've gone through that a couple of times. ;)

Sincerely,

Bill

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

Mike, Trace, Kevin, and a couple others have all made statements that they are not currently involved with the new MST3K. So whoever that Crow was wasn't him.

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

Thanks for the clarification.

With that in mind, I get the impression Joel will probably be involved primarily as a writer and/or producer and stay behind the camera.

Sincerely,

Bill

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

Joel has said both on Kickstarter and Reddit that it's an all-new cast. He wants former writers and stars to maybe drop by and cameo or help write, but so far they all appear uninterested.

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

It seems the new Crow is doing a passable imitation (intentional or otherwise) of the vocal performances by Trace and Bill whereas the new Servo has the most distinctive voice the character's used since Josh Weinstein left the original series a quarter of a century ago.

So far I'm liking what little I've seen and heard! I can't believe I finally get to say this after all these years, but:

MST3K is back, baby!!!

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

I suspect that the Crow and Servo in the Kickstarter vid are both placeholders -- Joel said in the AMA that all parts have been cast and that we already heard the new host in the video. That implies that we haven't heard the "real" 'bots yet.

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

Well, if he had decided to go with the placeholders from the video I could have lived with them. They sound alright.

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

I thought Crow was pretty good, but Servo didn't do it for me. Ironically, the new host sounds a LOT like Kevin Murphy's take on Servo, more so than Servo himself did.

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

Yeah, Crow certainly had me fooled as evidenced by my earlier post.

Sincerely,

Bill

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

I like the bright yellow Gizmonics jumpsuit the new guy wears. This will be the fifth or sixth color seen worn by the series host, counting the outfits worn by Joel during the original KTMA episodes shot for local Minnesota television in 1988 and 1989.

Hmm? Where did you see that? Was it something I missed on the KS page? I could tell from his silhouette he seems to wear glasses, but that was about it (assuming that performer IS the Mads latest "experiment").

Sincerely,

Bill
