Did anyone get a Windows 10 invite?

I guess those annoying popups weren't encouraging people to upgrade fast enough, so in early 2016 Microsoft is going to make Windows 10 a recommended update through Windows Update. So depending on what you've got your WU settings at, you could get the update automatically downloading, or even get the install process started automatically. (Although Microsoft is claiming that users will be "clearly prompted to choose whether or not to continue".)

Gonna piss a lot of people off if they have download quota.

I gather you can use the metered connection setting to minimise this but think it's only on wireless connections and can screw up other things

They were meant to be adding extensions to Edge but that's been bumped, I think, to Redstone next year. I'm not sure which version it's coming in but Cortana on the desktop will tell you when you've got a text message or phone call when your phone is on silent and you'll be able to text back from your PC.

Cortana only works for me if I change language to UK or US and location to US...

I see no reason why we still have to wait for a "local version" of that..

Not to mention that updates finally killed support for my Radeon 4870. Shows in the device manager but there's some sort of driver issue.

Apparently when it's officially released it'll come in the form of a cumulative update rather than a new full update in the way Windows 10 was, so you may have issues with that when it comes.

I'm in the Preview Program, so I've got the new Xbox One dashboard already (based on Windows 10). It's pretty nice, all things considered. A couple of things could be a little snappier, but the layout is definitely an improvement.

The old dashboard was designed with (mandatory Kinect) voice commands in mind, so it was a complete mess, structure-wise.

Right now I'm using the Ubuntu side of my dual boot system, because Windows 10 has developed this issue where it will freeze for 3-10 seconds, every few minutes or so. It's frustrating, and Google has about 1,000 different causes and solutions, so until I can get things fixed, it's Trusty Tahr for me.

I do hope I figure out what's going on, though, as I'd rather not lose the software (or game saves) I have on the Windows side.

I miss the Windows 7 resource monitor. That was very helpful for this kind of thing..

Yeah, I've watched the resource monitor, and looked at what was eating up the processor. According to the monitor, "system" would consistently hit 100% every few minutes. I don't have any apps pulling that kind of memory or cpu usage, and I keep my system slim and trim.

I checked for malware and viruses, and everything came up clean. So I don't know what is causing it, all I know is it's frustrating and makes my Windows side unusable.

It's probably there and I haven't looked properly but I can never find it when I look.

Well, I found the problem. My linux installation had become corrupt (according to W10, of course), so I had to delete it and re-partition the hard drive. It looks like Windows 10 doesn't like to play well with others, at least on my system.

Edit: No sooner did I say that, the whole thing just froze up twice. Deleted my Linux partition for nothing. It looks like I'm going to have to reinstall Windows 10. Again.
