If Supergirl performs well, maybe they will. But the trend has been dark sci-fi because people seem to gobble it up.
Well how dark are talking about? There is a huge divide between kinda dark to Game of Thrones level dark. I think this series should have a bit of grit that say TNG didn't have, but nothing more dark then say DS9 IMO. DS9 is the Trek show that feels most like a modern TV show.
That's a ripoff. Those would be fair prices to keep the episodes forever - but not to watch them only one time. And I've heard that this paid service even has ads...LOL...if it truly has ads, then that ups the ante from it just being a ripoff to it being a mega-ripoff.
Forbes is right, this is a terrible idea. Some hardcore Trek fans will overpay to watch Trek products, but many will not, and non-hardcore fans and non-Trek fans definitely will not. In order words, this strategy of forcing people to pay for a service of dubious value just so they can watch one show is going to alienate the vast majority of that show's potential viewers.
I don't think so. There are many of us that understand this is the future of television.
Streaming sites like Netflix, which has a large library and no ads are the future.
CBS All Access feels like trying to graft the old media model on the age of the cord cutter. CBS All Access really seems lame compared to Netflix.
I doubt we would be getting the same level of complaints if CBS just made this show for Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime.
Problem being, none of us know what All Access will look like come January 2017.
And presumably season 1 will be available as a blu/DVD boxset six months after it's finished airing, which is probably how I'll watch it.
(I understand this is also where a lot of the income for OITNB, GoT, HoC, TWD etc comes from.)
Oh, but the Diddly-Bumpians were screwed up by TNG, changing the jacket design and makeup details with NO respect for continuity.
Let's face it, Star Trek has been totally ruined by Star Trek.
It feels like it's coming from the hubris of CBS execs thinking because their network is #1 they can do whatever they want. You can see it in Moonves comments about how much money they make licensing their shows overseas, etc. Right now they are charging $6 a month with ads for basically their leftovers. There's no original content yet. They probably don't pay much, if anything, for licensing like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon do so minus whatever costs they have to maintain the site the rest is probably profit -- selling the same thing to people twice.
But this is Star Trek - a show which encourages people not too value money to the extent that its heroes don't get paid as they live in a moneyless society and anyone who does use currency is vilified. CBS should feel ashamed that it does not live by the values it promotes.
Or something.
Oh I know. And that's fine. More power to them. I'm excited for new Star Trek. I'm just not sold that they can make something good since I'm struggling to think of a scripted CBS show I've enjoyed anytime recently and I'm not going to buy what appears right now anyway to be a very poor service just because they have a show called Star Trek on it. Obviously there's a lot of time between now and when the show comes out for me to be won over and I hope I am. I'll gladly pay for the series if it's high quality.
Of course, by that reasoning, AMC should be sinking their Walking Dead money into preparing America for the upcoming zombie apocalypse, and Lifetime should be campaigning to track down abusive serial-killer stalker boyfriends you meet on-line.
And I don't even want to think about how FX is obliged to reflect the values of American Horror Story . . . .
I suspect the move is an indication they see a lot of streaming of the current Star trek offerings currently on All Access and that traffic shows them there is a viable market
Nah, The Walking Dead is actually about developing themes of leadership, teamwork and familial loyalty. It's basically an allegory for the Corporate World and as long as you embrace these values you will be a positive contributing member of society.
Or I'm making complete bullshit up and it's just about a guy with a crossbow. You decide.

Meh, maybe they considered the series good propaganda for the idea of moving Mom out of the house.

I'm not subscribing. So, for the first time ever with Star Trek, I'll wait for the DVDs. Which, if I represent any significant portion of the potential audience, means I'll get one season before CBS blames the cancellation on ratings instead of their business plan.
Complaints about the fractured streaming model are growing. People have been unplugging from cable, which has nice big packages that include all your favorite stuff, and moving to streaming instead. Cable was expensive. Streaming is cheaper. But now the fractured market, where each stream subscription contains only a small percentage of everything you want to enjoy, begins to add up to the same costs that made people unplug from cable.
