It seems it's easier for Hollyweird to commit $$$ to a show-concept if it already has a history to it, instead of taking a risk on something entirely new and different.
I guess it's just me, but I really would not mind seeing both on TV. I loved it in the 90s and early 2000s when STARGATE SG-1 was the big thing on sci fi TV. It was unlike anything before, it was fun, it had great characters and actors, neat stories, great action, some ongoing story arcs, and it gave DEEP SPACE NINE, VOYAGER and ENTERPRISE some badly needed competition.
I hope this new series turns out to be good. If it doesn't, we'll all know that TPTB just threw some $$$ at what they saw as a low-risk investment.
