Did you enjoy DS9 the first time you watched?

Question 2: Was there an episode that got you hooked?

Personal: I tried to watch the first few shows in 93 and just hated it. The music (then) sucked, no real starship, and it was weird. The whole inside the wormhole aliens and Sisko flashing to baseball....blah and meh, but that was back then.

Tried again in 95 w/Worf and the "new" show....about the same....

The series came on in 03 TNT or Spike late night, couldn't sleep so I put it on and enjoyed it.... Blv it was Sacrifice of Angels...still didn't get hooked but I enjoyed it

05 DS9 was being shown still on Spike TV...had nothing to do so I sat down and watched TNG Masks and some other forgettable episode. I knew DS9 was next, so I was hoping it was as good as I remembered from 2 years before....Tacking Into the Wind/Strange Bedfellows was on....I was hooked. Watched through about 3 or 4 times. Still tear up on the Visitor and last scene in What you Leave Behind.

I never liked DS9 and never watched it completely until I started to read the novels. I got hooked by the characters described in them. It made me buy the DS9 DVDs and I kinda binge-watched it..... Loved it from then on.

For me, I'd been enjoying TNG so it was inevitable that I'd tune in to check it out.

I quickly got hooked and it's probably my favourite of the series.

It was literally the very first show I was glued to as a child. TNG was always on and I enjoyed it but DS9 hit all the right notes for me and got me into long-form storytelling at a very young age. I loved it to pieces and cried when it ended.

As for a particular episode that had me hooked... hmm, not sure. I know I was thinking of virtually nothing else during the six-parter at the start of Season 6. :P But I'd been watching new episodes as they aired since around the third season, and I was already digging it like crazy, so I dunno.

Nope.
I never actually got hooked, just watched it on and off. It had it's moments, but to this day I don't think I've seen them all.

Yeah, pretty much. The first episodes I saw, I think, were The Jem'Hadar and The Search. I found the cast and characters a breath of fresh air compared to the TNG episodes I had been watching around the same time. I got so into the show I practically forgot the other shows existed, except for TOS.

To be honest, I was already under contract to write a DS9 novel before the show debuted, so of course I was watching with interest. But it was "Duet" that really hooked me and demonstrated just how good the show could be.

Season one was a bit slow, except "Duet". From season two on it became better. Season three had a bad German dubbing (I should rewatch it in the original then).....

We both mentioned the same episode. Great minds think alike... :techman:

I found the first season dull and uninteresting, for the most part. I didnt take to all of the cast either. There were some early pointers though - Duet, Progress...

By late season two / early season three it had really hit its stride and was way more interesting than the weekly visits to a strange planet of TNG and later Voyager. I ended up loving it (and the cast) way above all other Trek, and still do.

The episode "The Jem'Hadar" was a turning point for me. From then on I really got into it.

Yes! Liked it right off the bat.

However now when I do re-watches I find the first two seasons very slow going. I tend to speed through them.

I watched "The Emissary" first. I liked it and I thought it would be about them exploring the Gamma quadrant. And they did do some of that. But it seemed like that got left by the side of the road when the trouble with the Dominion started. It seemed to me the show became more about Alpha and Gamma quadrant politics than exploration.

That being said, there were some things I did like very much. The father/son relationship between Sisko and Jake. The exploration of the Bajoran culture and religion. Episodes like "The Visitor" and "Far Beyond the Stars".

.

"Progress" was the one with Brian Keith, right?

Yeah, that was a good one, too. Also "Necessary Evil."

I watched the show the day it premiered on (what would become) UPN's flagship station. I loved it. I especially like Sisko's relationship with Jake. I thought Dax was hot. (I can't remember if I thought Kira was hot too, but I do remember thinking it was a bummer that she cut her hair in future episodes). I was very intrigued by Opaka.

For reference, this is how I reacted to the other series when I first saw them:

TOS (sometime before age 4): I love spaceships!
TNG (the day it premiered): Hmm ... at least it's Star Trek.
VOY (the day it premiered): I can't stand Mulgrew's nasally smoker's voice. Tuvok is cool, and Torres is cute.
ENT (the day it premiered): Lots of action! I like how they parsed current and future style.

I enjoyed it from the premiere. I was loving TNG at the time but I was intrigued that we were getting a little something different. I instantly fell in love with it. I noticed that some of the following episodes were still pretty good but not living up to the premiere but it was "Duet" later in the season that got me hooked for the long haul.

I didn't get to see DS9 until Season 2. The first episode I ever saw was "The Homecoming" and I liked it. I was still majorly into TNG at this time but once that went off the air I made sure to go back and watch Season 1 of DS9. I'd say The Jem'Hadar/The Search episodes made me a big fan of DS9 and I really took it to my heart when Worf joined the cast. It helped that the series got better with each season. TNG is still my favourite show but DS9 is a very close 2nd.

Nope! I could not stand it. Did not like the station, found Sisko insufferable, Dax annoying, and O'Brian whiny. Odo and Quark were inaccessible and irritating.

Didn't really get in to it until I watched "Trials and Tribble-ations." After that, I slowly warmed up to it but have not watched all of it. The Dominion War stuff and all the things with Klingons were surprisingly interesting and engaging.

Not really. I thought the first episode was okay, but I didn't make any effort to watch more. Kept in touch with it for a degree, but it wasn't until Call to Arms that I started to watch it regularly and then go back and catch up.
