Once Upon A Time Season 5 Discussion Thread -Spoilers

Generally not, it's usually a "Lance and Gwen get carried away" rather than moustache-twirling vs. righteous. The great tragedy is that neither is really a "bad guy" but loving the same woman destroys their friendship.

People have brought up Peter Pan, but he's at least a fairly amoral and somewhat sinister figure in the original play so it's not a HUGE leap.

No such excuse with Arthur, this is just... bah. But then, this is the same show that reduced the love between Marian, of all characters, to an inconvenient Obstacle for Regina's Wuv. So I guess I shouldn't be surprised they throw another great hero under the bus to prop up one of their boring-ass people (this time Charming as the One True Shining Knight). Kay and Percival should've been a clue.

Haven't watched the latest episode yet and not sure if I will after seeing Arthur talk his squire into killing himself, but still following the thread. I gave this show another chance despite "Dark Swan" because they're doing Camelot and Merida and because I understand Ruby/Red is coming back. Now... ehh...

While I am disappointed Arthur is a villain here, I'm still really enjoying the show. For me it's not really bad, it's just not the way I was expecting it or necessarily wanted it to go. I just have to accept their Arthur is an evil, power hungry, borderline date rapey douche.

Good ep in that it raised a lot of questions for me.

If Merlin was freed... where is he now?

Is Emma still Emma, or is she a changeling and is really Merlin?

It was cool when Emma zapped the Merlin tree!

It was soooo not cool how she got Henry's tears.

At first, I didn't think Emma did a bad thing necessarily by plotting to break Henry's heart in order to get his tears. Besides, she did it to free Merlyn.

But trying to manipulate people - even using her own son to get what she wanted - was just a step toward the dark side. Didn't Merlyn say Emma's heart had to be clean or pure to rid herself of the darkness?

I honestly never thought Emma would do anything to turn Henry against her, so I was pretty shocked by what happened here.
I wonder what will happen with Violet's father once he gets his memories back. We saw two complete different reactions to him, so it should be interesting to see what his attitude is once he remembers both versions of his first meeting with Henry. I'm a big fan of Ryan Robbins, so I got a kick out of seeing him here. Is there any show filmed in Canada he hasn't been on?
I wasn't expecting to see Merlin so soon. I wonder why he isn't in Storybrooke?
The last scene with Merlin makes it sound like becoming the Dark One is a choice, so now I'm curious to see what happens that makes Emma embrace it's power.
Wow, Merida is pretty ruthless with Rumple.

I didn't see Brave and don't know anything about Merida. Is her character supposed to be some kind of a vicious scoundrel? She even said so herself, "I'm more of a hit first, ask questions later kind of girl." When she first met Emma, she was ready to shoot her with an arrow. I don't really care for her character; her role is insignificant and does nothing to advance the plot.

She's not really a viscious scoundrel in the movie, she's just an independent, tough teenage girl
Here's how the Disney wiki describes her personality:
Merida is a very brave, bold, daring, courageous, stubborn, rebellious and headstrong girl who does not fit the stereotypical princess role. Rather than being a damsel in distress who is subservient to the customs, traditions, and social restrictions her society places on her and expects her to follow, Merida openly rebels and defies her heritage as a princess and would like for nothing more than to be a normal girl. She is very athletic and enjoys nothing more than riding her horse Angus and practicing her archery, of which she is the best in the kingdom. She also seems to be skilled in sword fighting, as shown in the Brave featurette "Cutting the Class". She tends to be ungraceful and has bad manners, and is extremely tomboyish.

It's worth keeping in mind that this Merida appears to be about 10 years older, and when we first met her she was desperate to save her brothers in Camelot, and was being controlled by Dark Swan in the Storybrooke.

^ Interesting.

The real hero in this story should be Belle. Belle sees the best in everyone. She showed Merida that magic wouldn't solve her problems, and that her skills in archery, as well as her courage, would better demonstrate her rightfulness to be a ruler. Belle also taught Rumple that running away wouldn't make him a hero; she gave him inner strength.

Since Merida went back to her kingdom, one wonders how she got caught up in the curse?

And did her brothers follow her too?

That's what I'm wondering. If it she wasn't in Storybrooke, and I hadn't known from interviews that she had a big flashback two parter coming up I would have assumed that was the last we were going to see if her.
Belle is one of my favorite characters and I'm a big fan of Brave, so I loved this one.
I have to admit I didn't expect to see Dingwall, MacIntosh, and MacGuffin. Does anyone know which one had the blue paint on his arm? The actor looked familiar, but the IMDB page does't have them listed, and OUAT wiki doesn't have pictures of them or pages for the actors.
I thought they figured out in Storybrooke that Arthur is a bad guy?
I was really surprised Rumple actually pulled Excalibur from the stone already, I wasn't expecting that until the end of the arc.

That would have been an interesting twist, but it would have been annoying to do such a big 180 after so much time was spent setting up Rumple. I also like the whole arc of one of the series big bads becoming a pure hearted hero. I'm really hoping they don't just shove the Darkness back into Rumple after all of this.

I think that one was MacIntosh, so Paul Telfer (at least according to tv.com)

That is him, thank you. Turns out he had recurring roles on both NCIS and The Vampire Diaries, which is why he looked so familiar.

So... who is the Hero that is gonna save them, Nemoway?

Tried spelling it backwards, because that is what it sounded like... That didn't help much.
