A New Set for the Enterprise

I don't think a CIC makes sense for the Enterprise — her primary mission was exploration.

True, but it definitely has a military function and is quite capable of participating in, and even leading, a war effort. And the CIC could surely be repurposed to do other things when there isn't an actual war on.

Modern-day naval vessels all have CICs, don't they? At least the large aircraft carriers have them, and I'm sure most large subs do as well. What do you suppose they do when we're not actively fighting? The Navy has other functions than war. Same with Starfleet.

Aircraft carriers have CICs, from which to direct air combat operations, missions and carrier fleet operations. When not in combat, they are used to direct training and other mission ops.

While we've seen it on the Enterprise NX-01 and STWoK. I'd like to see the Photon Torpedo launch Bay and the Torpedo Storage vault. And maybe a Weapons Control Center, like the above CIC. More than just a desk with lights and buttons that we saw in "Balance of Terror".

What about an operator's eye view of the hangar deck control booth?

Here's my take on it.

Why are the communicator controls, on the lower left, so far from the communicator array, on the upper right? On all the bridge panels they're closer together. Is that just the way they fit?

I don't remember where the controls are for the transporter console's communicator. I imagine it might be similar to them.

A single red left/right toggle switch, halfway between the hood and the rightmost control panel.

I'd like to see rooms on the decks along the bottom of the saucer, that apparently have portholes on the floor. ;)

I did base this console on the Transporter console, but I admit I was just pretty well winging it. Perhaps I should reshuffle the panels right to left, and put the smaller ones at the top. That would put it in a good position for the intercom. Good catch.

One part I did put some thought into was the center display, with the flight path graphic. I also put some snarky veiled comments in the various button codes:

I did some work on this back in '03. Here's a graphic showing how I think those rooms would be arranged:

Owing to artificial gravity, the portholes the appear to be in the floor could actually be in "the wall" of the room. Nothing say that all the decks have to be on the same orientation.
