Is it just me...

No. And jarring is not the word for it....

Just you, I'm afraid.

That would be like "fixing" the original KING KONG by replacing Willis O'Brian's stop-motion special effects with CGI . . ..
How about CGI-ing Jessica Lange on top of Fay Wray? Is it just me, or would that be a Really Bad idea?

Don't be silly. Then you'd have to CGI Naomi Watts in over Jessica Lange . . . :)

Original the Enterprise is the only real Enterprise. Nothing matches the excitement of the rotating nacelles. Even the remastered TOS Enterprise looks too much like a cartoon.

As sacrosanct as the TOS Enterprise is for many fans, JJ immediately decided to change it. He used the idea of the alternate timeline to justify it, but it's a very noticeable change, inside and out, including a TMP like saucer.

JJ has nothing to do with this discussion. This is about changing the TOS Enterprise in TOS Remastered into the TMP Enterprise. Please leave your Abrams butthurt rage in the nuTrek forum.

Butthurt? I just said the TOS design was dead last. TMP and NuTOS are both better. The JJprise is an improvement. I just said that. How do you interpret this as "butthurt" and "rage" about Abrams when I just said it was better than the original?!?

Nowhere in your post do you say that the JJprise was better than the original. In fact, you imply the opposite with the remark, "As sacrosanct as the TOS Enterprise is for many fans, JJ immediately decided to change it."

Are you serious? "Of the three, TOS/TMP/NuTOS, the original TOS Enterprise comes in dead last."

I said that right there in my post. If TOS Enterprise is dead last of the three, the means the other two, including NuTOS are better.

This is a generational difference among ST fans. I was a kid in the 1970s, and I'll never get over how cool the original Enterprise is.

Same exact story with the Batmobile. Others have come and gone, but the one from 1966 is still the best.

It's not just you.

No, wait... it totally is just you.

The TMP refit is my favourite Enterprise of all time. Do I want to see it replace the iconic original version in TOS? No way!

I was that kid too. I loved my Romulan, Klingon and Enterprise 70s models. It took a long time to figure out out to keep the nacelles from drooping on the Enterprise, even with a generous application of glue. I had the Spock shirt, the phaser, the tricorder. It was awesome.

But the TMP Enterprise was head and shoulders an improvement. The lines of that design, the sets, the uniforms, I loved it.

The only reason I wouldn't replace the TOS digitally in the episodes is that I prefer the idea that the TMP was a refit. Though replacing it with the NuTOS Enterprise might work.

... or would anyone else like to see the Enterprise from TMP replace the CGI TOS Enterprise in the show?

Why would they change the outward appearance of the ship but leave the interiors the same? Or are you implying that they digitally erase the bridge, all the corridors, engineering, quarters, etc. as well as the outward appearance for every episode? That would cost a ridiculous amount of money, not to mention the absurdity of it.

I'd like a less colorful interiors if I'm honest. The bright red doors and yellow pipes don't do it for me. I find it all quite garish.

And The sound effects on the bridge beeping all the time drive me crazy.

I seem to remember that the original bridge for the pilot had a more gray palette, is this true?

Ignoring the drastic change to the outer design, how would you go about changing all the interior shots?

Every scene in sickbay, engineering, the shuttle bay live action sequences, it couldn't be done.

No remastering is going to move away from using the original Connie, or it's pilot configurations when needed.

I wouldn't expect the interiors to be changed to match the movie, that seems impossible with today's tech, but perhaps a new color scheme - I prefer the one used in the original pilot.

Exactly.

But my Batmobile will always be the one from the Tim Burton films. I grew up watching the movies and TNG. It explains a lot.

Would it be too jarring?
I've never been a huge fan of the series model but the movie version is still my favorite visually speaking.

Get off my starship!!..punk....

Seriously, a fan discussion in the 90s (live at the Tex-Trek Con about 1993, not internet) mentioned doing that exact thing..but the technology was just too primitive, and the fans overall just thought that it would be a "Bad Thing" as then the "refit" in TMP couldn't be justified.

Off topic slightly but I'm rewatching TOS (first time seeing it remastered with new effects) and I love the CGI Enterprise. It's a beauty. The original version always looked like it was a hologram being projected. When I first saw DS9's tribute episode I wished the Enterprise had looked like that in the original series and now it does. I would not replace this Enterprise with the one from TMP even though the refit is a stunning vessel too.

Yes, "The Cage" had a less colorful bridge. Not sure it was quite as visually interesting.

While I like the refit or as I like to call it, Enterprise Class, Enterprise, the Starship Class Enterprise is my favorite by far and would not want it changed.

I like both the original and the re-mastered digital versions, but not that other one in the last 2 movies. That's unattractive to me.

It was shown that way in TOS's pilot episode. It looked drab, utilitarian, and way more militaristic than how it was portrayed afterwards.

Not if they just changed the exterior.

So again we're back to having the ship look like the TMP version on the outside but the TOS version on the inside. I think that'd be too jarring for most people. Plus, there's a display of the Enterprise on the bridge that shows the TOS version, so one would be wondering why one depiction of the ship looks different than the actual design.

This actually happened in the Red Dwarf series. They went back and remastered the first few seasons with CGI effects instead of the physical models they originally used. One thing they did was redesign the titular ship. The prevailing attitude of the fans was "why the heck did they do that?"
