Jessica Jones-- Marvel/Netflix

That trailer was pretty good, at least when it comes to David Tennant. I think his Purple Man is going to be a great villain, and I'm betting he steals the show like Kingpin did on Daredevil. I'm still not even remotely sold on Ritter, but I think Tennant will be good enough that her miscasting won't ruin the show. If nothing else, I can ignore her parts and only pay attention to the Tennant parts if she's somehow even worse than I imagine she'll be. Overall, I'm excited to see what Tennant brings to the show.

When she was first cast, I too wasn't sold on Ritter.

But with every single tease, leading right up to the this insane trailer, I'm completely blown away by how she just fits the character. Good on her.

It seems a little ridiculous to say you'll completely ignore the main character of a main show, but good luck with that.

Even my wife, who is getting sick and tired of all these superhero shows, LOVED the trailer and is looking forward to the show.

Well done Netflix. Well done.

 I thought she was horrible when she was announced, and she was horrible in the trailer. I'm pretty sure Shaq would be a more convincing Jessica Jones, and he's better at acting than Ritter too, based on the acting work I've seen from both of them. As for how I'd ignore the main character, its called skipping/fast forwarding. Its not a modern invention, but its helpful to avoid listening to a horrible actress try to act out idiotic writing. For Jessica Jones, you just go past any scene that doesn't have David Tennant in it, and you've successfully ignored the "main" character. I don't intend to do that to start, but I'm sure the show will drive me to that quickly.

Well thankfully you're alway wrong about these things, so no need to worry. She's a fine actress and you're evaluation of talent is horrendous at best.

I would try and warn against the whole "skipping/fast forwarding", as you'll most likely miss most of the plot and character development! But it sounds like you don't really care.

Personally, I'd rather try something before I write it off completely, but maybe I'm just crazy.

Krysten Ritter is the only reason I'll be sampling Jessica Jones. She's a very talented actress.

Krysten Ritter is great and I've long hoped she'd get her own show, yet I hate pretty much all the Marvel stuff so I'm in a bind!

Same here (although David Tennant helps as well). I wouldn't even bother with this show if it weren't for those two. I literally knew nothing about the character before the show was announced and I originally planned to only bother with Daredevil out of the four NetFlix shows.

Well, I've read comics Alias and The Pulse twice, so I've had more than enough good material with Jessica Jones anyway. I watch everything Marvel (that isn't called Agent Carter), so I'll definitely attempt to watch Jessica Jones. I doubt it will be any better than the episodes of Birds of Prey written by Jessica Jones showrunner Melissa Rosenberg, but Tennant is so good I think he'll make parts worthwhile. Besides, this show looks to be a gigantic trainwreck, which is worth giving a little time to, then skipping to the good parts once the horrible parts get old.

 Well, she was terrible in the episode of The Blacklist she guest starred in, and she was horrible in the Jessica Jones trailer, so I think I've evaluated her talent fairly well.

You keep using that word horrible, I don't think you actually understand what it means. Especially when you compared her to Shaq. She is not horrible, you're the only one who thinks she is. So we all must be wrong, because you are the diviner of talent. Your opinions are usually so horribly wrong, no one and I MEAN NO ONE takes you seriously in anything you say. It's like a 5 year old critiquing stuff, we're all laughing at you, to your face. Listen I don't mind dissenting opinions but yours are so wildly incoherent that I often wonder if you get yourself dressed.

Just because I think she sucks doesn't mean you have to agree. If you enjoy her acting, more power to you. Personal attacks are a little uncalled for, just because I don't agree with you. I've seen her acting, and she did a bad job. My opinion doesn't change just because some people don't like my opinion  Also, anyone who says stupid stuff about how they "wonder how I get dressed" can laugh at me as much as I want, since I couldn't care less about people like that, and I certainly won't let them bully me into pretending I share their opinion.

You can't evaluate someone's talent from a trailer so, no, you aren't being fair. She may well have been bad in the Blacklist, but the Blacklist is an awful, poorly written show that even James Spader can't save.

To judge an artists body of work on what is less than 1%, probably not even 0.5%, is not a fair evaluation.

Okay. So I watched the trailer. What exactly is wrong with her acting? I'm use to her in a comedic role (Don't Trust the B in Apt. 23), and I thought she hit the material I saw in the trailer out of the park.

I can't say the trailer interested me too much. Nothing to do with the actress, just the story didn't seem interesting or compelling from what the trailer showed. I'll likely still give the show a shot upon release.

Well, I don't think you need to see a huge amount of someone's work to judge if you think they're a bad actor or not. The Blacklist is probably the best thing on her imdb page (and the only thing she's ever been in that I'd ever watch). Between that episode and one short youtube clip of Don't Trust the B in Apt. 23 that I saw on youtube (which immediately made me want to throw something through the computer screen), I thought she's sucked every second she's been on screen.

Acting wise, in the things I've seen she couldn't do an average person, she couldn't do threatening/intimidating, and she sure as heck couldn't do comedy (although, to be fair, no one in history could have made the material in the youtube clip work :ack: ). There are almost certainly worst actresses out there, but Ritter looks to be the worst female main cast member in the entire MCU.

She was just completely unconvincing. To be clear, I'm coming into this as a comic fan who likes the comic character, and has probably read 90% of the comics Jessica Jones has been in. Based on that experience, I wouldn't know that trailer or any other pre-release stuff was even for Jessica Jones if the Purple Man wasn't in it (outside of the logos and them saying her name, obviously). She just looks and acts like some random mopey woman in the trailer. I don't buy her as the character at all, its like if they had hired Elijah Wood to play Thor. Well, except for the fact that he's a decent actor.
