Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

Actually "Han Solo and the Princess", the Han/Leia love theme.

Indeed.

"Leia's Theme" was from ANH and something entirely different

I stand corrected. For some reason I had it in my head that the 'Love Theme' in ESB reprised some of the melody from 'Leia's Theme' in ANH. Listening to them both now it's clear they're distinct tunes. Similar, but clearly distinguishable and yeah, it's the theme from Empire that they're using in the trailer (a version of it at least.)
Still, the point remains valid. Han/Leia theme = heroes, Luke's Theme = villains.

I'm not saying this is by any means proof of anything plot-wise, but it's clearly a deliberate choice meant to evoke something very specific for whatever end.

Yes, it's CLEARLY a deliberate choice, in the sense that JJ and Williams didn't put the names of the various SW themes on a wall and throw darts randomly at them.

You're reading into it too much that it was "meant to evoke something very specific for whatever end", other than being the right piece of music to match the tone of the images.

I see this a lot with fanboys - they tend to overthink things to the point of absurdity, the result being that THEY themselves put more thought into the subject at hand than the actual film makers/tv makers do. "Lost" was the ultimate example of this - the theories making the rounds were SO convoluted and detailed that there was NO WAY they were going to be true!

Just relax and enjoy the images and music.

The "Love" theme always sounded very grand and dramatic to me, especially since it reaches its peak during the carbon freezing sequence on Cloud City.

It's entirely fitting and plays as grand, tragic and dramatic.

It's not fitting for a battle scene IMO and really it's little more than a temp track, the actual music if any played over the real scene is bound to be different.

Cool retrospectives of the Star Wars Sagas

Dis is bombad.

In years to come, the "Luke is Kylo Ren" thing will be spoken of with guffaws of mocking derision in the same way people now speak of clone Sidious or Grando Calrissian.

If i'm not totally mistaken Kylo Ren is the dude with the crossguard lightsabre?

If so the final trailer should put it to rest because it shows him from the back, without mask, as he engages Finn in those snowy woods.

Given that we still have absolutely no shot of Luke in the trailers i guess this will be something akin to Vader's "I am your father" type of reveal in the movie.

I am SO curious about the story and a little bit anxious because, while very well done, JJ's Star Trek movies didn't exactly tread on new ground by using existing characters and just shifting around some details.

I really hope it's not that simple as "Remnants of the Empire have built a new planetkiller superweapon and the Rebellion is going to destroy it" (even if it's well done). Given that JJ, rightfully so, is very stingy with plot details i hope he has a very good trilogy story or it could turn out very disappointing.

It's time to come up with some new legendary character and let Vader and the rest retire.

I don't know what to make of that character.. a 20 something leading the Empire?

I know that young actors are usually always preferred nowadays but it's ridiculous to believe that a 25 year old leads a huge military.

Give me Peter Cushing any day.. now that was a believable leader.

Where are getting the idea taht Snoke is 25 years old? Except for the possible BBC leak we've yet to see Snoke.

My bad.. i thought one of the younger actors was called Snoke and was the guy we saw in the trailers in the First Order scenes giving the speech at the general assembly.

Turns out he is a motion capture character performed by Andy Serkis.

True. In the trailers for Revenge of the Sith or The Phantom Menace, many cues from The Empire Strikes Back were used, but not in the actual scenes. However, since the prequels did reuse OT music, I would really hope this new film avoids that, and creates an original score, aside from the bigger-purpose "Force" (or Luke/Obi-Wan) theme.

Again, that's the Force theme (aka, "Binary Sunset"). Luke's theme is the main title theme.

You mean General Hux, played by Domhnall Gleeson? Yeah, he does look way too young for a bad guy officer in the Star Wars films. Before this Admiral Motti in ANH may have been the youngest-looking of all the high-ranking officers with dialogue. Gleeson looks even younger when he's out of costume and attending events like San Diego Comic-Con.

Uh, hang on a sec. The First Order's leader is supposed to be named... "Snoke"?

That's just all kinds of intimidating, right there. Glad to see the grand tradition of silly Star Wars names is intact.

They're both in their 30s. Part of a generation that never knew the Republic, that were raised on the glory of the Empire. True believers. The perfect kind of people to be at the forefront of a new push to reclaim that glory.

That may not necessarily be the angle they go with, but there are any number of ways to justify it.

Well given the whole Finn apparently being raised to be a Stormtrooper thing, it sounds like The First Order might not have much in the way of experienced older personal especially if they kept the policy of killing people for screw ups.
