Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

I'm thinking Luke will be kind of like Nimoy's Spock in Abram's Star Trek films. Sort of key to the plot but not much more than an cameo. Also
The whole thing with him possibly being exiled is kind of similar too, although it's probably also meant to invoke Obi-Wan

I have to admit I was a little surprised when I heard Gleeson's character was a General, so I'm hoping there's a decent story reason for it. Either way, he is a terrific actor, so whatever the issues are with his age, I'm sure he'll give a great performance.

Not really that surprised by the statistics for the pre-release ticket sales.

I'm guessing Hux is kind of the Tarkin type, with Ren being sort of Darth Vader and Snoke being of course Palpatine/The Emperor.

Phasma I suppose could be Boba Fett, although she doesn't seem to be a bounty hunter but a Stormtrooper leader, and the only analog to that are the Clone commanders in ROTS I think (Although of course Boba and the troopers are 'related').

I'm thinking there's sort of going to be a Jabba-type too (probably not a Hutt though), judging by the Vanity Fair photos. His or her "Palace" is probably the building with that red droid that Han and Finn are going into.

Maz Kanata is a pirate, she's the one we hear talking to Rey in the new trailer, and possibly the one who is handing over the lightsaber in the other trailer. A lot of the sites think that is her castle we see Rey, Han, and Finn going to in the new trailer when they walk past the red droid.

The "Love" theme always sounded very grand and dramatic to me, especially since it reaches its peak during the carbon freezing sequence on Cloud City.

It's entirely fitting and plays as grand, tragic and dramatic.

It's not fitting for a battle scene IMO and really it's little more than a temp track, the actual music if any played over the real scene is bound to be different.

True. In the trailers for Revenge of the Sith or The Phantom Menace, many cues from The Empire Strikes Back were used, but not in the actual scenes. However, since the prequels did reuse OT music, I would really hope this new film avoids that, and creates an original score, aside from the bigger-purpose "Force" (or Luke/Obi-Wan) theme.

Incorrect, the Force theme is heard when Qui-Gon sticks his lightsaber into the door in TPM and you can hear the Darth Vader theme when Anakin says goodbye to his mother and again at the end of the end credits.

Even in the first film, it's kind of used where Ben is not present; notably in the sunset scene (Although an alternate score exists that's on some soundtrack albums) and as part of the throne room music that closes the film.

Yoda's theme is also used in some scenes in EMPIRE during the escape from Cloud City (Most notably when Luke encounters Boba Fett and falls into the trap). Although one could argue that it's being used because Luke now has better skills because of his training with Yoda, so Yoda's 'presence' is felt.

However for some reason it's also used in the AOTC factory scene, although the score to that film was really screwed up anyway in editing (I've heard it's partially because Lucas edited too much after the score was already complete, but also Williams was over-worked that year, hence very similar music being played in Harry Potter and The Chamber Of Secrets during the Quidditch scene).

Interestingly the Emperor's theme also developed from being 'his' theme to pretty much a catch-all for the dark side, such as when Anakin confesses to Padme about the Sandpeople.

I'm pretty sure that the music in this trailer is actually a new composition. Sure it's the Han Solo and the Princess music, but with a lot of choral backing to it that was nowhere in the OT. One of the early TV spots-the one with the First Order base in a wide shot-also used Battle of the Heroes from ROTS, causing some uproar (It also showed that some of the First Order tech is actually repurposed ROTS CG models, as we've discovered with the toys as well.

Although since a lot of TFA seems to use Ralph Mcquarrie concept art for the OT (For the X-wings notably), and some of that concept art was also used for ROTS's vehichles, I suppose it was inevitable.

On a side note, the belief that Disney is ignoring the prequels is a myth. The Marvel comics are using references to them at every upportunity, half of the last Darth Vader issue was set on Naboo, and Luke's fighting General Greivous's bodyguards over in the monthly. Pretty sure Shattered Empire visited Naboo too!

Yeah, as I understand it, the alternate score for the binary sunset scene wasn't just alternate, it was the original version, but it was rejected. The second, now iconic, version used Ben's theme. That's my recollection of what was in the soundtrack liner notes.

Here's the trailer for The Empire Strikes Back using Vivaldi's The Four Seasons!

I'm sure some were hoping that the PT would be ignored, or at least minimized, but almost all spin-off material have made use of some reference to them in some way.

Also, ATOC was notoriously hard on Williams, and there was even a complaint filed by him because Lucas changed the edit so much that many different tracks were reused due to the workload.

I will be curious to see how the score for TFA comes out.

Liked what I see. Definitely, using "real sets" and a better script will help sell this film.

My predictions: the reason why Luke is not around is because of a falling out he had with the Rebel Alliance, over what happened on Jakku. I think the Rebels captured a super-weapon (called a "Starkiller"?), and used it at a critical moment. As a result, Jakku was laid to waste, Luke disappeared. This event may also be the reason why Leia and Han are not together either. Meanwhile, the First Order becomes strong enough attack the Rebels, though the first priority is to find the Starkiller, which is purposely being hidden by the Rebels. IMO, of course.

We're just joking anyways. ;) I've forgotten or been unaware of some track titles myself.

I know, I was always surprised by how little music there was during the Luker/Vader duel in Empire.

And aparently TFA will steam on Netfix only in Canada next year.

The trailer had some 112 million downloads, I knew that if they put out another trailer people wouold want to see it.

Just Canada? That's a shame. I was kind of looking forward to the idea of streaming TFA on Netflix and that it might even be part of a bigger Star Wars movie package that included the first six films in the Saga.

They already showed what happened at Jakku in the Lost Stars novel and it
twas none of that. :)
