2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (LOL NO)

Whether the 2015 WS is Mets/Jays or Mets/Royals, I don't care, I'm fine either way. :)

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (Mayb

These Cubs really have wilted in the October heat. All the pitching they need wouldn't have helped with the lack of offense.

Only Fowler, Schwarber & Soler have done anything consistent.

Here's hoping they can get Price and/or Greinke in the offseason. They seriously need more than 2 good starters.

Daniel Murphy has just homered...AGAIN. He's done it in 6 straight postseason games.

Edit: ... SWEEP!!! THE METS HAVE JUST WON THE PENNANT!!!

Mattingly out in LA, fired but reported as mutual agreement.

Both would be great but I imagine the Dodgers are going to aim their money cannon at Greinke. I can't really see him leaving that team unless he really, really hates the media presence out there.

Dan Haren announced his retirement last night, too, meaning there's another vacancy in the rotation. And given how much more Arrieta was worked this year than at any point in his career (roughly 90 innings more than his career high), I'm not sure they can count on him to be a demigod next year, either.

Ever since the Cubs beat the Cardinals, I was telling my wife that they were going to break my heart in the NLCS, but to be honest, I can't really fault them for turning into a pumpkin. They faced what is probably the sickest top-4 pitching rotation in baseball and they ran out of steam.

It was a fun ride. I'd say Go Mets, but I have such an unrelenting disgust for the Wilpons that I can't.

Sorry 'bout your Cubbies Timby, but at least you have a young team with some solid pieces, so they should be in contention again next year.

I've been a closet Mets fan a long time, so I am excited about them being in the Series. I do think they will have a tough time beating the Royals.

On behalf of Canada, I invite anyone onto the Jays bandwagon who is interested. We need all the help in the world on Friday and maybe past that.

I can get aboard the MORE DINGERS FOR THE DINGER GOD bandwagon. Also, I want to see Dickey get a ring.

Greinke opted out for either more money as a Dodger, or to go elsewhere but still get paid. I can dream, can't I?

One story has the Cubs interested in Jason Hayward, thoughts?

The QO for Fowler is probably going to be in the neighborhood of $15-16 million, and I'm not entirely convinced the Cubs want to throw that in his direction without a guarantee of a few years -- and I'm also not convinced he's a $16 million / year player. Heyward fills that hole a lot better for the Cubs, particularly since they're looking to have some permutation of Bryant and Schwarber in the outfield for the foreseeable future and a reliable glove in center is pretty much a necessity when you have either of those dudes in left / right. Heyward also has remarkable on-base skills. I'd be more than happy if they picked him up alongside like a half-dozen pitchers -- and thankfully, unlike last year when it was Lester / Scherzer / holy holy dogshit, it's a relatively deep free-agent class this year.

I'm a little surprised that the Mets handled the Cubs so easily.

My best guess is that the young team didn't know how to handle the lay-off they had waiting for the other series to wrap up? The looked horrible in the field and asleep at the plate. I know the Mets pitching is very good but...

Nice to see one of our local boys make it to the show. David Wright is one of the good guys in sports.

Break...

Dandy Don is out in LA.

Mattingly out in LA, fired but reported as mutual agreement.

So how does that work, anyway? "Don, we're going to fire you. OK with that?" "Yes.":eek:

That's probably not too far off, considering Mattingly won't say he resigned and the Dodgers won't say he was fired. Mattingly still gets paid, and the Friedman / Zaidi front office gets to hire their own guy.

In other managerial news, Scott Servais is the new manager in Seattle, which seems like a really, really strange move. I mean, I guess he did help un-fuck Nelson Cruz, but for a team that's been so bad for so long, one would think Dipoto would have hired someone with a little experience.
