Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

I'm going to be poor forever. :(

I'm not exactly the type of person who uses "summer" or "vacation" as a verb either, but I've still managed to accumulate a dozen or so of them (plus I just found a cheap little bookshelf to display them).

If you're like me and can't really afford the credit debt at the moment that a subscription entails, I'd suggest doing what I do: saving up for a couple of weeks and then hitting up one of the local comic/collectible store (and maybe shop around to check prices, if you have the time). Some of them will special order certain ones, if they don't have it.

Now if only Ben would answer me on Twitter about the 3 ships I most want that are outstanding: Daedalus, Borg Queen Throne Ship, and the Scimitar.

I heard the Daedalus is a long shot, since the design hasn't really been seen in canon, other than desktop model.

As for me, the ones I really want are the Jenolen, the Merchantman, the Klingon D5, the Batris, the Groumall, the Xindi-Reptilian ship, and Degra's ship.

Yeah, I actually don't subscribe-- I have my local comic shop order the ones I'm interested in (usually the Starfleet ships, plus the occasional other). So far it's been 27 out of 52 ships, which is $540! The series has been running two years now, though, so that's not so bad on a monthly basis.

What's been announced so far will bring me up to 34 out of 70, which seemingly indicates the deeper in the back catalogue they go, the less interesting ships there are. Which is also reassuring.

Then never mind. I thought you were pretty poor but it turns out you have almost 3 times as many of them as I do! :rommie:

I'm sure you'll manage somehow.

Here's the response I got regarding Issues 53 and 54:

"Your next shipment hasn't processed yet because issues 53 and 54 have been out of stock. We actually just received notification that they will be available very soon, though, and so your next order should process and ship as soon as they are. We apologize for the delay and any inconvenience this may cause for you."

Okay. Fair enough.

Although one wonders how they got out of stock of magazines that nobody in the US has received yet. Sounds to me like their logistical issues extended beyond a mere data and office transition.

Oh well...guess it's all about the waiting at this point. I really wish they would volunteer this information in broadcast emails to their customers without us having to pry it out of them in drips and drabs and needlessly leaving us all in the dark for so long. Not a very effective business model in that regard.

So I just ordered the Shuttles and hopefully my local WHSmith will have the Kelvin tomorrow.

I was just charged this morning the usual $39.90, presumably for the October issues. This one came from the usual Eaglemoss LTD, eaglemoss@dbfactory.co.uk rather than from a US account, but I use paypal so maybe it just hasn't moved over to the US yet (somebody mentioned this may take a couple months).

Hopefully things are getting back on track, however I still have heard no word on September's missing issues. I e-mailed then last Friday and got the standard response that they would get back to me within a couple business days but I still have not heard back from them.

It was said early on that the shuttles would only be available in the UK and limited parts of mainland Europe like Germany. Just like the smaller and more accurate Borg Cube that was only available to subscribers in Japan.

So...to answer your question...

Nope. I have only just begun to kvetch! :D

Actually, Ben Robinson the project manager has said on Twitter that the shuttles will be available for sale in the US. He estimated that they would be put up for sale at the end of this month or the beginning of next.

I just checked my credit card and I too have just been charged for October. So looks like things are getting back on track.

Very cool! Thanks for the update. Glad to know that we'll eventually see them. Now, if we could only get a hold of that damn Japanese Borg Cube!

I'm not on Twitter or Facebook, so I'm afraid that I'm not quite as "in touch" as the kids these days. Not sure if that's necessarily a bad thing sometimes... :D

Edit: Confirmed, $39.90 just popped up on my CC today for October. We're back in business!

^There is a promo code knocking around somewhere on Twitter that works ;)
People's subscriber codes? What does that knock it down to?

I'd be interested if they were simply the regular cost of an issue, and if they were normal size at least (like the Runabout and Delta Flyer.) Aren't they like mini size?

It knocks twenty quid off and from what I can tell, they're not massive, but not tiny either given the stands (the oval part) have been the same size for all the models, both normal sized and jumbo sized.

The base is apparently about half the size.

That's a possibility, the eaglemoss shop says they're around 7cm long, the Enterprise D which is the biggest model I have is 14cm long. Hopefully the model will be Original Enterprise quality and not Refit quality.
