Old Spock and new Spock. Is it an alternate universe?

Of course, Worf in Parallels thought he was in the same universe at first. Alot would be the same among any number of an infinite number of parallel, quantum, alternate timelines.

Technically, he was. They were just splits of his original timeline.

Parallel and divergent timelines are two distinct things in the Trek world.

Personally, I'm more curious as to how the Mirror Universe came about. Can we see a Mirror Universe Nu-Trek with MACOs and an investigation by Temporal Investigations to correct everything?

Also, revisit the ending of the Temporal Cold War.

Well in the case of Worf, Spock in ST09, and the Mirror universe, the characters experience alternate timelines that already existed prior to their arrival in them. Their arrival doesn't create it. Although maybe in the Orci model, still more alternate timelines were created by them.

Personally, I hope we never see the Nu Mirror.

Well, according to the current rules, it wouldn't be the Mirror. Unless they went to that specific Terran Empire/Bearded Spock world, it would just be another shitty alternate reality. The novels have a few different ones.

The comics have been to the Mirror Verse a few times.

Nu Mirror would be cool to see, in my opinion. Especially if we got to see Admiral Marcus again as the Emperor ;)

Also, I wish I could find a screencap of Teal'c when he dealt with a multi-verse in Stargate.

"As I told you, O'Neill, our's is the only reality of consequence."

One of my favorite SG1 eps was "Window of Opportunity". OMG, that episode had me in stitches. :D (O'Neill and Teal'c caught in a sort of causality loop, doing pretty much whatever they wanted each time. Hilarious).

But even older Spock joked about it in the movie to his younger self. Just it's not something you usually see in time travel movies.

Adult Spock, posing as Cousin Selek, saved the life of Young Spock in "Yesteryear" (TAS).

Ah, I'd forgotten about TAS..

Hey did both TAS and TOS do an episode where the ship was inside a giant cell or some amoeba thingy?

They never did that Stargate based golf course of the ground though, much to my disappointment ;)

"Col. O'Neill, what the hell are you doing?!"
"IN THE MIDDLE OF MY BACKSWING!??"
:guffaw: :guffaw: :guffaw:

Definitely one of the best episodes, in my opinion. As much as some don't like O'Neill, his very down to earth reactions to crazy events is what makes him to likeable to me.

Aye, and it was Richard Dean Anderson's insistence that Col. O'Neill be just a little bit....eccentric, despite his darkened past. He wanted to have fun with the role.

Even Kurt Russell foreshadowed the television Colonel's lighthearted nature in the film version. "I don't suppose the word 'dweeb' means anything to you?" :D

Another episode that had me laughing so hard I had to pause the DVD until I could compose myself was "200." But I think Window of Opportunity takes the cake. :)

I loved how SG-1 had those episodes that kinda let it step back and make fun of itself.

Apologies for thread-jacking. :)

Well, I think that Stargate gave some interesting ideas for parallel universes that provided a different look at the idea of the multi-verse.

Okay I've only read the first couple pages of this thread, so forgive my laziness/not having time, but the general consensus is that the Prime timeline still exists, just in an alternate reality (like in Paralells). In most other instances when someone goes back in time and changes things, the original timeline ceases to exist. (City on the Edge, First Contact, Past Tense, Yesterdays Enterprise, Year of Hell, etc.) So how is ST:2009 any different?? I know some characters made mention of this, but with all due respect to them, how could they possibly know?

I would think, from Prime Spock's POV, there has been massive damage to the timeline, and he should go to the Guardian of Forever and try to restore the original timeline.

Once again I'll suggest Christopher's "Department of Temporal Investigations" novels. As technical as they get, I think they offer a sufficient explanation.

(In layman's terms: The black hole created by the red matter is a strictly one-way passage back in time. It doesn't allow any information to be passed back to the present. So therefore any time travel that results from it, will not overwrite the present in any way.)

Okay, thanks GS, that does make sense. This particular method of time travel via black hole created by red matter as opposed to temporal anomaly, GoF, Orb of Time, etc., makes it unique. Good to know that the Prime timeline still "exists". :)
