So I am moving to the St Louis area soon! :D

Any advice you guys have for a Dutchman moving to the USA? :vulcan:

Don't run a radio station from the top of the Arch.

Please elaborate?

It's a reference to the SyFy Channel TV series Defiance, where a radio station was being run from the top of the broken St. Louis Arch in the future. Things didn't turn out well there.

Don't smoke in public.
Swear a lot.
Wear jeans.
Look at your phone all the time.
Eat too much.
Spend too much.

You'll fit right in. ;)

Ah, I've actually heard of Defiance, is it any good?

Check. Check. Check. Check. Check. :techman:
Don't go to East St. Louis.

Just don't.

We are actually moving into a town to the east of St Louis. What neighborhoods are you referring to?

Yeah, I enjoy it. It's a scifi western, so if you liked Firefly it should appeal to you (although unlike Firefly, it's Earthbound, although an Earth drastically altered by alien terraforming). It has some great world building with a wide array of aliens, and the lead is basically playing Han Solo, albeit with a badass alien daughter.

Which town are you moving to?

There is actually a city called East St. Louis. I haven't been there in ages but when I lived nearby it was well-known as a crime-ridden hellhole. The kind of place you would only drive through without stopping.

East St. Louis is where you go if you're looking to get stabbed. It's actually a city in Illinois, right across the river from St. Louis, Missouri.

I will, thank you!

If I may ask, why St. Louis? Is it for a job?
It is work related yeah.

I've been there a few times although the last one was almost a decade ago. People have said it is bad there crime-wise but I never saw anything going on and it was a nice experience every time I've been there.

Never been to East St. Louis though so I couldn't say what that area is like.

St. Louis itself is fine.

East St. Louis is sketchy.

They're totally different cities, so don't confuse them.

I left the St. Louis area in 1987, so I have no idea what it's like now.

I was born in East St. Louis, Illinois, in the early 1950s, but it was getting a bad reputation even then. By the 1960s, if you were white and driving through, you kept the car doors locked and windows rolled up.
