Well, that depends on what you mean by destroyed. I don't have numbers, but I suspect Civil War was a massive financial success based on the fact that they keep doing event stories.
Even claiming Civil War was what caused it is unfair. Civil War was a crosspoint storyline that opened the way for many other storylines such as the rebooted Thor, the Death of Captain America, the Initiative, and Iron Man Director of Shield. OMD/BND was going to happen regardless of whether CW happened since we know Quesada had wanted to undo the marriage. If it didn't happen there it would have happened later either in Secret Invasion or Siege.

Remember Civil War had Spidey unmask. They tried it for a while but Quesada decided to put the genie back in the bottle and One More Day did that as well as break up the marriage. I just lost my interest in Marvel at that point. Maybe I will go back one day but I am just way more into silver and bronze marvel at this point.
