Characters You Want

So many descriptions of new ideas of Trek focus on the type of ship, the period, the brand spanking new context or enemy, etc.

I invite folks to describe a character or general character type they really would love to see in a new Trek. Presumably the bulk of these would be Starfleet personnel because such make up the majority of each show. Perhaps they are on a ship, or make up the staff of a space station, or a colony. That isn't what I'm asking. Rather what kind of character do you want to see?

Here's an example: In TOS we had a trio--Kirk, Spock and Bones. Maybe you've noticed how how similar trios have popped up elsewhere? Buffy/Willow/Xander in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Frodo/Gollum/Sam in Lord of the Rings. Katniss/Gael/Peetah in The Hunger Games. Harry/Hermione/Ron in Harry Potter. One seems to be the Hero, with an Expert of some kind as well as a character who might be called the Friend, the emotional "glue" that makes it all possible.

How might we do an interesting variation on this without copying any of the above examples? Three females of different species maybe? The only humans surrounded by aliens? Siblings, adopted or otherwise?

I'd like to see an anti-hero as the main character, or least part of the core cast. Someone that has been beaten down by life; maybe they were the hero once but now he/she is just going through the motions.

But they aren't allowed to go over the edge because of the friends around them. Maybe a new love interest that evolves throughout the story, along with friends and a new sense of purpose helps the anti-hero turn back into the hero.

Self concious Captain. I'm tired of the overly confident captain. I want a captain who is a good bit insecure. The kind of guy who is constantly going to his senior staff for everything ranging from hows my hair,to did i get there name right.


The sociopath. Either played as a human or another race that is incapable of having a sense of guilt. Itd be interesting to see how the federation would function with a guy that has no soul.

Nah not that self concious more of a geordi leforge type if I had to name names for the captain.

Although I think the captain should be more like a really popular politician who actually has far less control than his role appears to have.

The captain at the start of generations is a prime example, although slightly more compentent.

As far as the sociopath, I think the guy from 7 pyschopaths would be great, combined with his role from moon.

Or even Ro Laren-Tom Paris type. Insanely talented however incredibly irresponsible.

A female Captain from a species outside the UFP, often looked down upon by others due to their behaviour/history (Boslic or Orion from canon spring immediately to mind, though it could be something all original, depending on timescale a Cardassian could also work in nicely). She has had to fight against this stereotype and prove herself constantly. She is now promoted to Captain (a rank many, even some of her crew, see as political rather than warranted) and now faces her first command, determined to seize the opportunity she has been given and prove that she got it for the right reasons.

Her human XO is a promising up and comer, promoted quickly through the ranks, she takes a chance on him liking his feisty manner and knuckle-down work ethic. Her faith in him leads him to be a staunch supporter of her command, though is willing to question her orders and argue his point in private (never in front of the crew). He will also have to face a personal hardship, when a former partner (now married) reports aboard.

The Security Chief is from a trans/dual-gendered species and is someone who takes their role very seriously, pushing their staff hard and themself harder. They are definitely not someone to be underestimated.

The Science Officer is from an established species (Bajoran, Ktarian, Trill, etc) who was once romantically invovled with the XO. It was an intense and passionate relationship, before he broke it off and requested reassignment. He is now married to the ship's Conn Officer, though seeing the XO again causes some confliciting feelings.

The human Conn Officer is a woman of grace and skill, who is highly sought after on pretty much every ship in the fleet. She took this posting to be with her husband, the Chief Science Officer, although it was a tough choice to make, as she has a personal bad experience with the Captain's species, which has led to some deep-seeded animosity and resentment.

A Vulcan serves as Counsellor, they may not be the "touchy-feely" kind of therapist but their extensive knowledge and understanding of emotions helps them to help others with their problems.

Not sure who'd I'd have to fill out the last few positions, would need a little more thought.
