The Action Figure and Toy Collecting and Discussion Thread!

That's one of the most accurate replicas of Episode I Obi-Wan that I've ever seen. They nailed Ewan McGregor's facial features and hair! He looks exactly like Ewan did in the film!

Here's how s.h figuarts are now doing faces

They are color printing directly onto the face to offer a more realistic head sculpt.

If only the retail toymakers had the time and the resources to do that kind of facial sculpting. Sure, we'd pay more, but if the quality of their figures skyrocketed that much and that quickly it'd be worth it.

Slave Princess Leia have been sitting on shelves for years.

Naked women don't sell very well .....

I think you are oversimplifying. there have always been customers, the problem is getting the product to them because of the religious and parent groups that would lynch anyone who tried, in spite of the legal right of any company to do so. The internet has improved the situation, but nobody is jumping up to test it.

And let's just face facts. It's not that she's half-naked in a metal bikini. Her factory paint apps are often mediocre or even horrible and the awkward, visible joints on bare skin make her less attractive to buy and display than you'd have first thought when you heard there'd be a 6-inch scale version of Princess Leia in her Jabba's Slave Outfit.

I have been collecting the larger black series figures for a year or two now, however long they have been out. Han Solo, and Slave Leia were peg warmers in my area, as was Greedo. Found a lot of cool ones at a WalGreens though, Vader, proto type Boba Fett, Yoda. Would really like to see a Bespin Han Solo. Having said that, sometimes I stumble on figures and never see them again, ROTJ Luke for example, glad I got that one when I did, never saw one again in my area. Got the Biker Scout insanely cheap because they were being clearanced out at a K-Mart. Stormtrooper was another rare one in my area, found one, and never seen one again.

Checking out these new MicroMachines, but they dont seem as cool as the originals, packaging isn't as nice, and from what I can tell, no display stands, which I vaguely remember with the old Star Wars/Star Trek ships. I do like the Hotwheels ships though.

6" Black Series distribution has been spotty and unreliable in most retail stores ever since Wave 3 with Bespin Luke and Obi-Wan was released. Wave 4 (Anakin, plain white Clone Trooper) barely showed up anywhere and was invisible for a lot of collectors who had to get those figures online or on the secondary market, and most of the newer waves since in the blue-striped window boxes have been seen more often at stores like Walgreens than they've been at the big box retailers.

The new 6" figures from The Force Awakens are the first ones since Bespin Luke and Obi-Wan that have seen mass distribution where most collectors can find at least some of them and at the same time.

Bespin Luke was another common figure around here, but that is one of my favorite figures from this line. Would be interested to see how far this line goes l, would like a Hoth Leia, Bespin Han, and an ESB Lando.

I heard a rumor that Lando in his Cloud City outfit is planned for the 6" Black Series line, but as of right now nothing has been confirmed.

The last new Lando figure released was the 2012 Vintage Collection Sandstorm (Deleted Scene) figure. It vanished fast. There's a market for Lando Calrissian figures and they'll sell out if you don't overproduce and overship them.

Just wanted to let you guys know that Action Figure Theatre (a site featuring comics made from various action figure lines, though mostly Doctor Who) is going to shut down their downloads page (where you can download the papercraft "sets" they use in their comics) next month.

It's mostly Doctor Who sets, with a small handful of 3.75" scale Indiana Jones and Star Trek sets, as well as some miscellaneous sets that are not franchise specific.

So if you are interested in free papercraft playsets for your figures, hurry over there before October 12.

I'm primarily a scale modeler, but I do collect some toys. I used to love to play with action figures but at a certain point I out-grew that so now I only have a handful from childhood and they're languishing in storage. They're mainly from "Teenage mutant ninja turtles" and a couple of figures from "The bots master". The last figure I purchased was the Ed-209, though is that considered a figure? I mainly collect Starships and the odd jet plane. I also collect Hotwheels and Matchbox cars. I'm not a t-hunt guy, I mainly just collect what I like.

I have considered getting the Revoltech Iron man; I'm seriously bugged that I didn't pick up their "Jason and the argonauts" skeleton.

Which starships do you have? Feel free to share some pics of your collection if you'd like!

I went to Wal Mart today. There wasn't a single Star Wars action figure there, the shelves were bare.

Mine have figures, but most of them are the figures packed inside the boxes with the new 3.75" TFA ships and vehicles. But most the single-carded TFA figures released on Force Friday? Long gone.

Thanks! I've got most of the Art Asylum/DST ships. I recently purchased the Playmates Vor'cha attack cruiser off of ebay. Sadly, that one suffered a catastrophic battery leak and the electronic features were lost. Up side is I got a full refund on it. It's still impressive to look at and is, I think, Playmates finest. I've got all the models that have been available except for a couple of the alien ships. I've got all the Hot wheels ships. I've got the Eaglemoss Oberth, Raptor, Constellation, and 22nd century Romulan bird of prey. The Eaglemoss are pretty good, but so expensive. I'm trying to get my hands on a Playmates Insurrection Enterprise-E.

Most of my collection is in storage so I don't really have any pics. I might be able to come up with something though...

Those are cool! I really like the classic NCC-1701 and the 23rd century Romulan Bird-of-Prey.
