Anyone out west remember Sprouse-Reitz five-and-dime stores? At their peak they had over 300 stores.
Grass Valley had one of the last...open till late 1993..
as a kid, I often got my AMT Star Trek model kits from them..

Yes, Sonic is an old brand, and they have brought the "drive-in" scene back into prominence.
But I can't stand their food.

Watching a commercial for SHAG retirement community has reminded me of Stuart Anderson's Black Angus. It was a chain of steak and seafood restaurants here in the Pacific Northwest. It had the 70s dark interior with wood panelling and the portions were small and over cooked but you couldn't beat the price.
^ There are still seven Black Angus locations in Washington State, and 38 in other states. I don't know if they are directly connected with the operation that Stuart Anderson originally started, or if it's one of those marketing situations with reviving an old, well-known name, but I remember them always being around until now.

We have one in Myrtle Beach, always looks packed. We had a Fuddruckers in Charlotte (NC) decades ago. They are long gone.
That taco bar.... so good... such an inevitable nightmare trip to the bathroom... but so good.what I miss most on the food side are Wendy's Salad Bars. It was probably a huge pain to maintain but man, I'd eat that 4-5 times a week.
I used to love the one near where I lived in Kankakee, IL. I remember the pizza being really good, but mainly I think I liked the name. (I've had essential tremor since I was small, so I got called Shakey a lot, myself, growing up.)
A&Ws are still a rather strong brand in Canada. Lots of restauraunts everywhere.
A lot of Long John Silvers' seem to be hybrid (Yum Foods?) stores now - we have one in Fayetteville NC that is half Long John and half Taco Bell. And last time we went to see my dad in Missouri, we stopped at one in Arkansas that was half Long John, half A&W.I find the food in the current Long John Silvers' to be as good as I remember.
I still make bell beefers at home sometimes.Brands that are still around but have long-discontinued products:
Taco Bell's "Bell Beefer". I used to love those.
La Choy's mini egg rolls. I could snack on those forever when I was a kid.
