Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

Should I start a separate thread just for the Journey to The Force Awakens? Or do you guys want to just leave all of that stuff here?

I read the author's blog entry. This is the ugly/idiotic side of nerd-dom...that you actively sabotage the revival of a property that you're apparently a fan of, especially when you haven't even read the book or you object to certain themes that you've *heard* are in the book.

But some people are saying the guy's writing style sucks too, and while I haven't read the book, I can definitely see how that could grate on a reader. I've certainly given up on books before because the author's writing is obnoxious in one way or another.

I've only read the first few chapters so far, but haven't had a problem at all with his writing style or use of the present-tense.

I can only guess the people complaining just haven't read many different kinds of books before.

You could request a whole new sub forum for Star Wars. Of course the answer will probably be a no, but no harm in asking.

Yeah, I figure if there's not one now with TFA this close and so much stuff coming out, there's no point going that far.

I did pick up Shattered Empire #1 a little while ago. IGN's review was good, and I know Greg Rucka is a pretty well regarded, so I decided to just go ahead and get it. I'll read it and share my thoughts later today.

Since not only do they know they will be filming a trilogy this time around, they also aren't knowingly skipping a decade between the first and second film so they can run the films in more a Lord of the Rings fashion with one movie going into the next in one way or another.

Eh, leave it all in here. We're not far from the movie's premiere and anything in Journey will relate to the new film anyways. It'd just be another Star Wars thread tangentially connected to Episode VII, and we already have multiple TFA threads open and active.

Maybe after the movie comes out and there are lots of different issues to discuss, but right now it seems better to keep it contained to the one or two threads in here.

I haven't read Shattered Empire #1 yet, but IGN just revealed that the two lead characters appear to be
Poe Dameron's parents
. This actually makes me more excited to read the comic. I wonder if the connection will come into play more in later issues?

Shattered #1 disappointed me. About half of it was reshowing the events of ROTJ, and then we basically have Han in the background and that's it. I thought this was the comic that was going to show the Big Three because they're apparently not in Aftermath? Why won't they show what the main characters are doing after ROTJ?

The art was gorgeous though and I look forward to what comes next!

The story of the Heroes of Yavin post-Endor will probably not come out until after the film, just to keep us guessing.

They probably want to keep it a mystery or at least open ended for future movie writers and directors.

No, it's focused Shara and Kes. The only stories we're getting focused on the big three are set during the OT. They appear to be avoiding giving us stories focused on the big three during the Journey to TFA period right now. I'm assuming they must be doing that to try to preserve the mystery about their roles in TFA. It does sound like they will at least play a bigger role in Shattered Empire than they did in Aftermath.
I've read through the first few pages of Shattered Empire, and I really liked it. I thought it was a lot of fun getting to see a new perspective on the battle around the second Death Star. I've pretty much accepted at this point that we aren't going to be getting a lot of stuff leading directly into TFA yet, and seem to be focused around the time immediately after Return of Jedi. I'm hoping once TFA is actually out they will start to fill in more of the gap, and give us some stuff focused on The Big Three.
EDIT: This was directed at Mr. Light, Ithekro and House of UIster posted while I was writing.
EDIT 2: It turns out the filming is for Episode VIII.

I actually find it refreshing. Not sure if it's the style or the clean slate--or both.

Thus far I have had no problem with not seeing the Big Three as part of the material leading up to the film. Part of my biggest issue with the PT is that nothing was really a "surprise" in the sense that who lived, who died, and the net result.

This feels fresh, new, and really exciting. Honestly, I'm getting pretty excited about the film, and all the promo material, good, bad or weird, is fueling that fire.

I don't see any need for the Big 3 in the tie in material leading up to the movie. It would be nice, but far from essential. But, I say that as someone who love the big characters, but my favorite characters were EU characters or minor movie characters (like wedge) who got expended stories in the books. So, I'm used to reading Star Wars books/comics that have little or nothing to do with the main characters of the movies.

Why would it automatically be no?

Some n00bs probably weren't around then but we had one before. I'd say there's at least as much call for one now, as there was back then!

Irish news is reporting that their will be more filming in Ireland on the Sceilg Mhichil island. Pickups?

It's 14 weeks tonight until the premiere in most of the world, except America. The film will receive an actual "World Premiere", sometime the week before(S.O.P.).

It's WAY too late for pick ups.

Also Ireland will get to see the movie on the 17th of December. A day before everyone else.
Wrong - Australia gets it also on Thur. 17/12. Factor in midnight screenings and that's 12:00 noon on Wed. 16/12 on the East coast of the US.

We'll let you know how it is!

:p :p :p

It looks like North America will be late to the party. France and most of Europe it seems and I guess other territories will be getting it on 16/12/2015, here and Ireland is getting it a day later and then you'll be getting it on that Friday. So it'll be the French who can let us all know how it is.

I didn't say it would be an automatic no, just that that is the probable answer. With the migration to new board software soon(ish) I doubt Anthony would want to make any fundimental changes to the board architecture before that occurs.

Funny, I'm the other way around. A friend of mine gave me one of those X-Wing novels that feature Wedge and I got bored after a few pages. I guess I just don't want to read about the dude.

But heck, when I first read Zahn's trilogy I kept skimming all the non-Luke chapters at some point because I couldn't wait to see how Luke's story progressed.

I'm particularly dying to see how they treat Luke after ROTJ, because I was really disappointed with the way Truce at Bakura glossed over it. He just redeemed his father and watched him die, got electrocuted by the Emperor and watched him die, the Rebels just won, he's been named the one man responsible for bringing back the Jedi... what's going through his head?

And Leia is finally with Han and she just learned she's a Jedi and she just learned Vader is her father. What's going on with her?
