What if a BSG-styled remake of Babylon 5 was made?

Wow, Seriously? And a thread Necromancy to do it, followed by a triple post? :wtf:

A major part of the "realism and grittiness" of NuBSG is the lack of abundance of habitable Planets (Or planets available to renew sources from) and no Alien Races.

    Wow.

Way to take away a lot of the core of the series.

For starters no Earth - Minbari war - the event that gave rise to the Babylon Project.

Remember the Babylon project aimed to try and prevent another such war by being neutral territory for diplomatic contact hence having the 5 great powers (Earth Alliance, Minbari, Centari Republic, Narn Regieme and the Vorlons).

    And the list goes on.

IOW you're totally missing the point and the plot of the series.

Yes nuBSG was dark and gritty but at the end of the day it never deviated from the core of the original series - the survivors from the Cylon genecide trying to survive and find a new home. The story was the same, the telling was different.

Your ideas completely change the story of babylon 5.

If you're going to deviate that far from the original, you might as well adapt someone else's universe -- for example, Alastair Reynold's Revelation Space series, which has weird, non-humanoid aliens, no FTL travel except with severe effects on causality, ubercool super weapons, augmented humans of several varieties, and destruction of worlds.

Funny, I thought that nuBSG was a B5-styled remake of BSG.

Hasn't JMS even spoken about doing a reboot himself?

A few years back, Warners was apparently working on a deal to do three TV shows in a Netflix type venue. One would have been a B5 reboot featuring as many returning cast members as available in supporting or cameo roles. Boxleitner as the President Clark type character. Characters like G'Kar and Dr. Franklin would be re-imagined and renamed because the original actors had passed away. Deal fell through. All three shows shelved.

JMS has since said he's working on a feature film reboot version.

Minor corrections: JMS never said who Bruce might play. What he said is that he envisioned him as the Earth Alliance president - didn't say which. Also, he said that in that version, G'Kar would be a historical figure like G'Quan. No mention of Franklin. But yes, the deal fell through.

As recently as a podcast released on the fifth, JMS said that he intends to finish the reboot feature film script this year for possible production next year. It has to be a feature because those are the only rights JMS owns.

I think there's alot of potential for a B5 reboot.

A solid source material well known that very few actually know.

With an original series that is exceptionally dated.

A reboot could be potentially awesome, I agree.

Except that I'm currently rewatching B5 and just can't imagine anybody else playing these roles!

Yeah. Babylon 5 really was one of a kind, wasn't it?

I consider it a privilege to have been there when it originally aired.

To see the last batch of season 3 episodes and the INTENSITY they generated, making me shake with excitement.

    NOTHING will replicate that.

JMS was in Australia at the time Sleeping In Light aired. He wasn't impressed with ch9's broadcast as broke a different points for ad breaks than how the show had originally been cut.

No doubt the later than scheduled broadcast didn't impress either.

Not possible. There were some likable characters on B5.

And even the ones that weren't likable had redeeming qualities. Something you couldn't say about a single character on New Galactica.

My son bought me (as a delayed Birthday gift) Babylon 5 (the entire series and movies) and Crusade..I'm slowly binge watching the entire series and have to say, a TOS Trek style remaster of the special effects is sorely needed.. needed but probably not feasible in a dollars and sense sort of way..
