What if Tuvix had been a miserable old git?

They should just have lied to Tuvix. "We found a way to both save Kneelicks and Tuvok and keep you!" Tons of treknobabble about transporter duplication ala Will/Tom Riker.

"Really, Captain?" Tuvix said wideeyed as he was led down to the extermination room... er- doctor's office.

Procedure done, Janeway walks out with a "Hehe, sucker!" look on her face.

BTW, if it were true, I'd imagine Neelix's jealousy would have eventually reared up in Tuvix regarding Kes and Tuvok's wife too.

Kes convinced Janeway to drag Tuvix kicking and screaming to his death. Kes convinced Janeway to unleash genocide on species 8472.

Kes is creepy. ;-p

Kes tried to kill the ship. Kes almost burned Tuvok's face off. Kes made the Doctor go mad... twice; once as a Holographic wife and then as a crushing on a guy who cruises space in a dingy. Kes was a warlord's first choice. Kes gives birth from her shoulderblades. Kes eats bugs and has oatmeal hands.

And worst of all, Kes voluntarily dated and kissed Neelix. There's something not right with her. But she's Voyager family anyway.

I have to correct you here:

1. Kes never tried to "kill the ship".

2. The incident with Tuvok was an accident because she couldn't control the powers Tanis gave her, powers she lost when Tanis left.

3. If you're referring to "Projections", Kes wasn't in any way responsible for The Doctors hallucinations. As for the events in "Darkling" it was that silly Doc who was experimenting with his program and went crazy as a result of it. Once again, Kes had nothing to do with it.

4. Kes was the Warlord's first choice because she was standing beside his bed in sickbay when he was dying. It could have been anyone, B'Elanna, Janeway or Neelix (well imagine Tieran taking control over Neelix!).

5. Stupid writers fantasy.

6. See my comment above.

7. Well, having an affair with Neelix is the only thing she can be accused of. But she didn't know better at that time.

No worries Lynx, I like Kes just as she is just fine :)

Besides, every character on Voyager is deeply flawed and Kes probably the least of 'em. Besides Naomi Wildman.

I think the writers chose the more interesting angle for the story. If Tuvix had been a horrible person it would have made him unsympathetic to the viewers and his death would carry no weight. Making him a nice person is a far more interesting premise to me.

But there was something undeniably "off" about him. Had they really been brave, then they would have made Tuvix charismatic, confident, brilliantly gifted, hugely engaging and massively popular with everyone.

Tuvix always had a sense of oddness about him and the crew clearly felt uncomfortable around him (beyond the fact that they were dealing with a fusion of two people they knew).

Tuvix should have been the greatest character Star Trek had ever seen... then you kill him.

There is something highly disturbing there.

Oooooh! I like that idea better. It's far more evil:devil:

It really bothers me to think that opinions regarding the morality of Our Heroes' actions could be influenced by how likable a character is.

Ah, you know me, Kes's informal "lawyer" who always have to correct statements which I find somewhat wrong. ;)

:guffaw:

Perhaps.

But I would like to view it from another angle: What if it would have been Worf and Riker transformed into "Worker" or McCoy and Spock transformed into "McSpock". Would anyone have criticized Picard or Kirk for doing the same thing Janeway did?

Everytime this Tuvix debate shows up, I have thought about that.

It doesn't matter who's combined, what matters is that the resulting entity is unique, sentient, and has expressed a desire not to be subjected to a medical procedure that will terminate its existence.

Tuvix should have been a recurring character. Like Gotenks in Dragon Ball. Every time there was a Red Alert, they'd do the Fusion Dance into the transporter and transform into a kick ass security hedgehog.

Tuvix came to exist out of a mistake. It was a tough decision, but neither Tuvok nor Neelix had a say in the matter, they too had a right to live as separate individuals. They didn't choose to become one person. I don't see that Janeway had much of a choice in this case. I doubt that another captain would have made a different decision.

I just watched the episode. Very strange. I wouldn't call it good, but the character of Tuvix definitely makes it more compelling than average. His outburst at the end, and "Dr. Janeway" are both a little odd.
