Robert Beltran complains... forever!

F. King Daniel

With the Robert Beltran gripe generator, you can read on as the man behind Chakotay complains and complains about his former employers and colleagues... forever!

Robert Beltran on the production team.
I think Jeri Taylor and the others are tards. I mean they have their heads up their asses. Look at what happened on 'Equinox'. They just totally deep sixed it.

Why those constant attacks on Beltran?

In my eyes, he's a hero! :techman:

Why?

Because he had the guts to stand up to the jerks who ran the show and tell them what he thought about them messing up everything.

I don't know if all the quotes in the "gripe generator" are true Beltran comments or just made up. But I did find myself agreeing with almost all of them.

With Lynx here, but did he complain all that much or is it just a few times exaggerated?

If he did say all these comments, I'd say he was a fucking hypocrite to have been cashing his pay check every week instead of quitting because he was miserable and hated his job.

If he did not say all these comments, I wish he'd speak up and say so to finally put the subject to bed.

I've heard stories on both sides of the fence; outing the truth would finally be nice.

Most of the quotes appear to be identical.

look at what they did with [insert episode title], they totally [insert colourful criticism] it

So for that reason, I'm out.

I'm sure most people hate and complain about their jobs, but don't quit because they have bills to pay and the job market sucks. So by your logic, I guess those people are hypocrites too.

And anyway, from what I recall Beltran wasn't complaining that he hated his job. He was complaining that nothing was being done with his character (which was true.) That's completely different.

I guess we have to expect attacks on Beltran even if the show's been off the air for 14 years, if Takei is attacking Shatner 50 years later.

This is a pretty basic random insult generator kind of thing, I doubt much, if any, of it is pulled from real quotations. Kinda funny though.

I want to start waxing philosophical about why Beltran was kind of my hero for being critical while the show was still on the air, but that would get me going on all the screw-ups and missed opportunities and bizarre choices that were made in the writers room... and then someone would have enough material to create a random complaint generator for svenden. And the world doesn't need that...

Guys it's a humour site.

It's taking the piss on Beltran who has said some very scathing things and insulted fans and then claimed it was all a joke and.. whatever. He's a dude who said some stuff and people got mad once and he still makes a living off doing cons so go him.

You are right, Melakon!

In fact, I bet that if you click the "Leslie Nielson Gripe Generator", he would be quoted as saying, posthumously,

"...yeah, Forbidden Planet! Wilcox couldn't direct himself out of a paper bag, and Anne Francis? I just don't see it! What a dog! Plus, Walter Pidgeon was a Hack!"

My memory of the time is that when I read a Beltran interview, I expected it to be full of whining. That's all he seemed to do.

Sure we all complain about our jobs but most of us don't do it publicly. Certainly not to the extent he did. I can't think of anyone, in any industry, that I've ever known to complain about their job so often and so publicly.

I don't know, if I was an actor put in a commanding officer's role for a Star Trek series, I'd be more than a little annoyed if after 7 seasons my contributions amounted to "do what the Captain says," and "Hey guys, I'm totally a native American. Look at me, all nature and shit."

You don't suppose Kate did Shatner on him? Plus, I heard his Spirit Guide was Broadway Danny Rose, reincarnated as a Norwegian Blue Ferret.

I think he HAD legitimate reason to gripe; he was playing a first officer for seven years. I liked Chakotay's relationship with Seven at the end, but I felt they could have put a bit more into it. I recently rewatched VOY and I feel like throughout the entire middle of the series there's little to no real character development. No wonder Beltran was bitter.

That being said, the series concluded fourteen years ago. He needs to get over it.

His character was incredibly bland and boring. I can't recall a single thing he did besides Seven Of Nine, randomly, at the end of the series. Oh and being duped by Seska several times.

He's right to criticise his character but maybe he should have quit when it became obvious the character was going nowhere. I understand the actors are locked into contracts but Denise Crosby and Wil Wheaton got out of them easily enough and they had no trouble letting Jennifer Lien go. Did the Voyager cast sign 6 season contracts like DS9 or 7 season contracts? Terry Farrell opted to leave the cast of DS9 at the end of S6 so I'm presuming that's all the cast were contracted for until Season 7 was negotiated.

If the paychecks were good, I can perfectly understand why he'd gripe but stay.

That doesn't make him a hypocrite, just someone who knows a good living when he sees it but as an actor knows it could be much better.

First of all, I doubt that he whined like this while the show was made. Calling the executive producer a tard suffices to fire the fellow.
Second, if Beltran had acted well he might have actually gotten more screen time over the course of the show and a better developed character like it happened with Picardo. But he is a bad actor and seemingly cannot deal with the fact that a bad performance will not be rewarded with more spotlight.

Or, you know, maybe he should have acted.

Here he is when he faces that Seska lied, used, betrayed and played him for years. It's like looking at wood.

I like the character in many ways but if I'd been writing for this show I would have not wanted to do stories for someone with such a limited range of acting chops. It's no wonder they went nuts with Picardo, he's a sparkling delight.
