Brands that were once popular....

Powerhouse Candy Bars.

Way back in the Dark Ages, when I was kid on the swim team, we would all run to the vending machines to get a Powerhouse Bar. Damn, those things were good. They are long gone, unfortunately. They stopped making them over twenty years ago.

For a while, the Kenosha Woodman's had the 12 pack, but that stopped a while ago.

Is Woodman's still there?

In Kenosha? Sure is. I actually live a half-mile down the road from a Woodman's in Madison, it's pretty great.

The Kenosha store is there, and I still go once a month.

Their prices have been creeping up for a while and are into the Wal-Mart range on most stuff.

I don't do as much stocking up there anymore, but do take advantage of their massive selection for things I can't find anywhere else.

I actually liked Crystal Pepsi. There was also 7-Up Gold, which tasted like 7-Up mixed with ginger ale.

In the 70s, I really liked the Marathon candy bar. They stopped making it in 1980, though it was pretty popular. The closest thing to it today is the Curly Wurly bar...and we can't get those in the States anymore because of the stupid ban on Cadbury. :scream:

Hey, Sports Fans, are they still making the "Reggie Bar"? As, I remember as a lad, the taste of a Reggie reminded me of the old "Bun" candy bars.

^ The Reggie Bar has been gone a long, long time. Apart from that time when Reggie* was playing and they were handing the bars out (causing fans to chuck them onto the field during the game :guffaw: ), I don't think they've been made since. And that's almost 40 years ago. That being said, I often wondered what Reggie Bars tasted like. I've never even seen one!

*That's Reggie Jackson, for anyone who wonders who the hell we're talking about.

Thanks, Laser! As I remember, they were pretty tasty, and not just 'cause I was a fan. (I was not.) To me, they tasted like the old "Bun" candy bars, and were the same shape.

Do they still have A&W drive-thrus? Used to see those all the time when I was a kid.
One of my fondest memories was going in the station wagon to A&W Root Beer stand for a root beer float! They still had one near my college. It was a treat to drive to town for one.
Does anyone here remember Flakey Jakes? It was a build your own burger/potato/salad/sundae restaraunt here in the Pacific Northwest. You would walk in and there in a display case was the burger patties; there were two sizes 6-8oz., and behind that was the walk in freezer with the sides of beef. You would choose the patty you want and they would grill it right in front of you along with baking the bun, then they would hand it to you and you would go to the condiment bar and add your own toppings. It was the same with the potatoes and the rest.
We also had Pizza and Pipes - A place where you could order a pizza and sit and watch silent movies while someone played an old Wurlitzer as accompaniment.
We had a Fuddruckers in Charlotte (NC) decades ago. They are long gone.
American Family Cleaning Products

I remember the tall-ish red liquid dish detergent bottles on our sink, when I was but a tadling of a lad. I also remember the big cake soap bars, because my mother frequently washed out my filthy little mouth with them.

As in, often.

I was discovering expletives, and using my new knowledge to the fullest in the neighborhood.

Sadly, there were Neighbor Narcs who ratted my out to my mom.

I can still taste that nasty taste.!
My mother's choice in that department was Ivory soap...:scream:
My grandma didn't care what brand (Mom used Ivory soap). She was an ordained Holiness minister. Cussing would send you to Hell! Then again, so would playing cards, dancing or listening to any music except church hymns...

Really? They seem to be expanding in recent years, popping up in more states. A suburb of Charlotte appears to have one as of this past April.

Still got 'em in the Chicago market, last time I checked, and there is one here in Dubai!

Anybody remember Dryers Ice Cream shops? Not Breyers. Dryers.

La Choy Mini Egg Rolls which were similar to Pizza Rolls, All Sport which was a carbonated Gatorade mmm mmm but what I miss most on the food side are Wendy's Salad Bars. It was probably a huge pain to maintain but man, I'd eat that 4-5 times a week.

Vernor's is still around. They were bought by Dr. Pepper/Snapple. Still hard to find, though, it's a regional thing like Cheerwine.

Yeah, must be very regional. I have a feeling it used to have a wider distribution though.

In its first year, Crystal Pepsi captured a full percentage point of U.S. soft drink sales, approximately $474 million.[5] Coca-Cola followed suit by launching Tab Clear on December 14, 1992.
I remember Crystal Pepsi, and I remember liking it quite a bit before they eventually pulled it off the shelves. But I don't think we ever got Tab Clear in Canada, as I don't think there's been any distribution of Tab in Canada, so Crystal Pepsi was it. There was no alternative as far as I remember.

Perhaps shifting areas. I've been seeing them in places that didn't have them a few years earlier.

Godfather's is still here, but I miss their deep pan pizza.
They were often voted Best Pizza around here. We ate there often, even though it was a 90 minute drive!

Matthews is also a 90 minute drive, but they weren't good enough to fight Charlotte traffic & crime.

Shakey's Pizza

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shakey's_Pizza

Had one in Auburn California, while you waited for the pizza, they ran Laurel and Hardy/Keystone Cops/Three Stooges shorts in a little theater they set up for us kids.. and ran Dixieland Jazz in the main floor..often had a live Bluegrass band playing as well

Gave out little styrofoam "straw hats" to each kid that ate there..
