Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors, etc

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

Jeremy Renner has posted some concept art that reveals whose on whose side in the Civil War.

Captain America (Team Blue): Cap, Winter Soldier, Falcon, Agent 13, Hawkeye
Iron Man (Team Red): Iron Man, War Machine, Vision, Black Panther, Black Widow
No sign of Spider-Man, Scarlet Witch, or Ant-Man in the artwork. The fact that Ant-Man's main connection to the conflict is Falcon, makes me think if he does get involved it will be on Team Blue.

Ant-man is in the picture. Look closer at Cap's shoulder.
And based on the rumors Spidey will be taken under the wing or Tony, so likely Team Red initially, but I can see him switching sides later in the movie.

That just leaves Scarlet Witch, maybe she remains neutral?

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

If that's Sharon's primary costume I'm a little bummed. I was hoping they'd put her in her iconic white costume from the comics. It would have made for an especially nice contrast to Black Widow since they appear to be on opposite sides.

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

"Iconic" is definitely getting overused to the point that it's becoming meaningless. Superman's costume is iconic. Batman's is iconic. Sharon Carter's? I don't think so.

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

I couldn't think of a more appropriate word at the time. I meant it's the look with which she's most associated and known for.

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

"Classic" would fit.

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

I don't think they like white costumes for the MCU. They turned Mockingbird's white and bue costume into black and dark blue. It makes sense to me, white clothes has got to be a nightmare to deal with in an action movie, unless you specifically want it to look dirty.

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

Those lineups look more than a little unbalanced.

2 Peak-performance humans, human who shoots arrows really well, human with flying suit and flying robot, human with a gun, shrinking "human bullet"

VS

2 Flying arsenals suits of armor that make the humans inside nearly invulnerable, an armored human with highly advanced technology and unknown abilities, godlike flying organic robot with infinite cosmic energy source, and their sultry ninja human sidekick.

Methinks Cap is going to have to get a little dirty with his tactics.

These were my thoughts as well when i saw the teams. Vision alone should be powerful enough for the entire team as none of them have destruction capabilities on the level of an Iron Man suit, let alone someone who wields a Cosmic Cube.

Cap's Team is more on the street level and they could use some heavy hitters like Hulk or Thor. We'll see what they do in story and if there will be indeed some mass fight where they all gather to duke it out. "Realistically speaking" Tonys team should wipe the floor with them in a direct confrontation but then there are outside factors like story and script writers that can change all this ;)

Whatever happens i look forward to this movie and especially the meta discussion about who supports whose team and why. This is why i think Civil War was one of the best events Marvel ever came up with (disregarding some weak points and irregularities in the comic series) because it touched on a very real part of people's lives in the post 9/11 world. The answer was never easy and both sides had strong arguments and it was a fun sociological exercise.

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

In the comics, Stark had that walking plot device known as Sentry. Cap's always been the underdog and should be the underdog in the fight.

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

Where's Scarlet Witch? She was on Cap's new Avengers line-up and I imagine she could even the odds somewhat.

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

I wonder if the Hulk will show up for a third act surprise on Cap's side...?

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

As the movie sounds more like Avengers 3 it wouldn't surprise me though i think it would have been spoiled long ago if Mark Ruffallo would appear on any Cap 3 set (that is if they need Ruffallo at all if only Hulk appears as a Deus Ex Machina).

While I definitely agree about the obvious imbalance of the teams and that Stark's team could walk all over Cap's without too much trouble, I think we forget that while they are definitely on opposing sides and that the battle is real, they aren't going to be trying to kill each other.. Beat down? Yes... But at the core, they are friends, teammates and heros... The stronger forces will purposefully hold back their true power. At least that's what I think, having never actually read the Civil War comics...

I think it more likely that Cap's team will be forced underground and be forced to use guerrilla tactics.

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

I think they probably made the teams so unbalanced on purpose. Given the title of the movie, Cap's team will probably get the most attention, and people love to root for the underdogs.

In the comics this was a huge point.. friendships shattered, relationships (and families) torn apart and the deaths that occured changed many people and had long lasting effects.

There were, if i recall correctly, 2 direct fights between Tony and Steve. The first one Tony really roughs Steve up but Cap refuses to go down (until they are forced to retreat before they get captured) and the second one is the final, all out massive fight between the two camps that has one side stop the fight and basically give up (won't say which ;))

I think the movie may follow a similar idea if changed to fit into the movie.. the question is not who's the better fighter but what they're fighting for and i hope that will be a central point to the story apart from the big SFX scenes. This is why i like Cap 2 so much.. on top of cool fights and CGI it had a very good story to tell with big personal moments and i hope Cap 3 can work at the same level.

I think it more likely that Cap's team will be forced underground and be forced to use guerrilla tactics.

That goes without saying.. it would be a hard sell to the public, especially the comic fans, to just have them meet in a parking lot and Cap's team winning just like this. Iron Man is not invulnerable and Tony has known Steve and his tech long enough to know where the weak points are (especially because they were friends once and teammates who should know about the weaknesses within the team) but it would not be very believable to see Cap throwing the shield and taking Stark down just like this.

I can imagine Banner being on one side and the Hulk on the other.

Also, I wouldn't rule out the appearance of a Hulk who isn't Bruce Banner.

That could be the movie version of Clor/Ragnarok. Iron Man cooked up a fake Hulk.

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

I can't see Hulk or Banner on Iron Man's side. Hulk wants to be left alone, and Banner hates authority and being controlled/captured by it. If Banner is in the movie, both himself and his alter ego seem like natural allies of Cap to me.

Neither works for me. That's because I associate her with the blue S.H.I.E.L.D. uniform from my childhood. White was the color of the uniform she died in, while undercover in the National Force
