Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors, etc

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

Well there's this thing called experience which usually let's people do something better the next time.

Or else some people are just not cut out for some jobs.

Whatever happens i like Evans as Captain America and look forward in seeing him in other movies that have nothing to do with superheroes to see if he is as likeable and talented as i think.

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

I thought he was good in Snowpiercer.

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

He should do a full Lucas Lee movie

Looks great! :D

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

Absolutely fucking incredible! Is it May 6 yet?

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

The good thing about this is that it feels like Winter Soldier, the themes and the general aesthetic. While I have problems with Winter Soldier (especially the ridiculous last act) it's definitely Marvel's strongest film

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

That trailer was great. I can see it being even better than Winter Soldier. It can't come out soon enough for me

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

^ I can see it being better than Age of Ultron.

That final scene with Steve and Bucky though. Bit extreme don't you think Cap?
Also I hope Rhodey is ok.

Also posters.

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

That was a great trailer. So far the Captain America films have been my favorite MCU films so I'm really looking forward to this.

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

Amazing trailer. Same vibe as Winter Soldier(same directors of course), and already looks so much better than Ultron was. I can't wait, and have high hopes this will be Marvels best yet.

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

Yeah, I'm really happy that the Russos were brought back for this, and that they'll be doing the Infinity War duology, too. They come up with some really great action choreography, and they infuse their movies with a bit of an edge and a grittiness that the rest of the MCU films--excepting the first Iron Man--usually lack.

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

Looks great. TWS will take some beating but if this is anything to go by, they might just do it.

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

Incredible. As Flying Spaghetti Monster said, it feels like a sequel to Winter Soldier and not Avengers 2.5. We have a better general idea of the plot now and it seems like it'll be building on all of themes developed in Winter Soldier. I didn't like the film the first time I watched but I enjoyed it a lot more the second time, especially in conjunction with the repercussions seen in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

I'll be very angry if Rhodey dies. Green, even.

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

Quick thoughts in response to the trailer and teaser art:

  • Black Widow on Tony's side and Hawkeye on Steve's? I don't buy it; I'd see them as on opposites. Clint is a very meat-and-potatoes kind of guy; I see him as someone who would favor government regulation of superheroes. Natasha made her lack of regard for governance and accountability fairly clear in The Avengers: "Regimes fall all the time. I'm Russian, I don't tend to weep for that." I definitely see these guys as being more plausibly on opposite sides of the fight.
  • Tony, the ultimate individualist when we first met him, has come down on the side of superhero registration. This actually does make sense to me -- surely he's feeling the weight of all those people his creation murdered in Avengers: Age of Ultron. I can see him wanting to move to the side of being held accountable as penance.
  • The Vision is apparently also on Tony's side? Hmm. I would have figured him as someone who views governance as an illusion and would be neutral.
  • The Black Panther is here! But which side is the King of Wakanda on?
  • No Spider-Man?
  • If everyone knows about Hydra, why are police out to kill Bucky? Surely Hydra's use of brainwashing technology was released when Steve and Natasha WikiLeaked all of SHIELD's and Hydra's secrets?
  • So in the MCU, it's a U.N. treaty called the Sokovia Accords, rather than a U.S. statute called the Superhero Registration Act. Makes sense; Sokovia's capital city was destroyed by a threat the Avengers themselves created, so I can certainly see Sokovia being cited as a prime example for why superheroes would need to be brought under government control again with the fall of SHIELD.
  • I've always found the idea that Captain America would be against superhero registration kind of iffy. This is the guy who worked as an official superhero for the United States Army, after all. And as a believer in democracy, surely Steve understands how dangerous it is when powerful people set themselves outside of the law and refuse to be held accountable to the People through the democratic state. Setting yourself above the law while exercising executive power is a recipe for abuse and tyranny. So I tend to think there needs to be some other impetus for him to be against superhero registration -- maybe the lethal manhunt for Bucky is the key here. If Steve thinks the Accords won't so much lead to accountability as to governments engaging in extra-judicial executions of enhanced persons (and/or to superhero conscription?), I can see Steve turning against the Accords even if he'd be in favor of superhero registration in other contexts. Steve made his opposition to extra-judicial killings very clear in his opposition to Project Insight (even before Hydra was revealed) in The Winter Soldier.

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

I was also surprised not to see Spider-man in this trailer. But I wonder was an element of their thinking that he might overshadow the main characters, even if it was just a glimpse of him?

I suspect that they wanted the focus to be on Steve and Tony for the first trailer for the movie and felt that Spidey would be a distraction, particularly the first sighting of the new incarnation.

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

The Black Panther is here! But which side is the King of Wakanda on?

He's either on Team Stark fully or at least, he's not initially on Team Cap, as he's shown kicking Bucky in the face after the major division of teams has already occurred:

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

The trailer is also missing Martin Freeman, Ant-Man, Spider-Man and Baron Zemo.

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

Of course they're saving Spidey for the next one.

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

Something I missed the first time:

At the bit towards the start where Steve says, "You're a wanted man," we see a room torn apart by an explosion. The room itself features long, circular tables arranged concentrically around what looks like a large dais with a speaking podium; at the chairs along the tables, there are what look like microphones.

So it looks to me like, at some point, either a legislature or some sort of deliberative body gets bombed in the course of the film. Maybe a European nation's parliament, or maybe a U.N. council of some kind?
