Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

Except thry made a point in ID that the five year mission was a one-of-a-kind thing into uncharted territory, which the Enterprise was picked for.

Then again, the old Enterprise bumped into dozens of Federation ships and was meant to be on the same five year mission. Just one of those tropes, I guess.

Which often led to stories of a) the good intentions of someone gone awry, e.g. "Patterns of Force", b) accidentally affecting of a culture, e.g. "A Piece of the Action", or c) captains gone rogue, e.g. "The Omega Glory". In any case, Kirk and company had to make things right. So maybe STB is an A, B, or C type of story (and of course "D" must be offered, because "none of the above" should always be a choice).

Maybe D is "Bread and Circuses". Combine a ST film with some fast-paced, in-your-face CGI gladiator action. Sounds like a win-win for the studios.

Well, Maybe if John Logan had been the co-writer with Pegg ....

Or here's a thought: What if, in these spoiler-obsessed times, a movie studio were willing to go to the trouble to build a whole elaborate outdoor set that had nothing whatsoever to do with the actual movie, purely as a decoy for the Internet?

Oh, dear Lord, the anti-JJ trolls would have a field day with that.

But it would be pretty awesome. :guffaw:

My first thought: Encountering the crashed saucer section of a fellow Constitution-class* in the teaser worked out really well for Starship Exeter in "The Tressaurian Intersection." :techman:

* - In that case, it was the Kongo's.

One other point to make... I do wonder if these little videos from Omaze are any kind of a hint as to what's going on in the film. They're pairing people up so so far you've got Scotty/Chekov, Spock/McCoy and Kirk/Elba's character. Plus, Elba takes the center seat in the latest video and so much of the video is centered around the Captain's chair.

I totally admit... I might be grasping at straws on this one. :p

Remember that big build in Vancouver? Looks like it's a crashed Federation starship!

I'm gonna speculate that it's the Enterprise, that they separate the saucer and it's a Generations crash redux.

My thought: Elba plays a Starship Captain who crashed his vessel who was attempting to do something to this particular planet which is the found out while Kirk and company attempt to rescue them. Taslim is his first officer. Boutella is a native who Kirk falls for. (Well, we kinda already speculated that part.)

Classic Trek story if I've heard one.

Maybe a mashup of Omega Glory and the Doomsday Machine?

I can live with that. :techman:

Of course it all makes sense now! We all know Dennis is secretly funding the movie, and since Pegg is so busy promoting his other movies and practicing Scientology with JJ Abrams and Tom Cruise, Dennis secretly ghostwrote Star Trek Beyond as well. And since they're on such a tight deadline, he just took the Tressaurian Intersection script and chsnged the names to Kirk and company!

Durr?!?

I wonder if it is the Enterprise? The corridor and shape of the viewscreen match.

I dunno, it's doesn't like it says Enterprise on that saucer.

It doesn't say anything on the saucer. Also, the location of the ship name would be well beyond what has been constructed.

There's text right under the window.....

*EDIT* Ok, checked the picture again.... the small version made it look like it said USS....something under the window. I checked a bigger version. I was wrong. Never mind......

The movie will open with this set. Cut to the interior.

SCOTTY (to KIRK): Do ye have any idea how ridiculous it is to hide a starship in the forest?

Hilarity ensues.

Could it be Earth-like planet 892-IV? The culture of 892-IV was considered a prime example of Hodgkin's Law, developing an analog of Earth's Roman Empire.

The '892' is probably a nod. That looks like Starfleet script.
