Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

I mean, yes. It's a fairy tale, and it ended happy. That's it. But, when you begin to really think about, regimes don't actually fall because a leader dies.

Of course not - but that's not what the films are - that is not to say you cannot do what they are doing (and of course have to do for the sequels) but its disingenuous to say that is somehow represented on screen in a nuanced way you pick up on as an adult because its not - not in anyway.

Ah, like that. Yes, that I agree on. There wasn't any actual hinting towards it in the movies.

I'd forgotten D23 was next weekend. Maybe that's where we'll not only get news of a new trailer but also all the toy reveals that collectors have been waiting for?

The official launch date for action figures and other toys from The Force Awakens is midnight on September 4th and that's less than a month away. To date we've seen images of almost none of the toys and collectibles based on the new movie with the major exception of the 6" First Order Stormtrooper figure in exclusive San Diego Comic-Con packaging.

Did you not see those pictures of the Micro Machines that some Canadian toy company accidentally released?

I did, yeah. That's why I qualified my post with "almost" none of the movie toys because a few random photos have leaked out onto the Internet. At least now we know that at least some Episode VII toys will actually say "THE FORCE AWAKENS" on the packaging. Episodes I and II didn't have one universal logo stating those movies' respective titles and it wasn't until Episode III toys premiered in 2005 that the movie title took a prominent role on the fronts of almost all merchandise packaging.

It's entertaining that the toys that have already shipped are in boxes marked with an official "Do Not Open Until" warning prohibiting stores from stocking and selling them before September 4th. We all know that some of it will be sold early and we'll see pictures of some of the new figures well before the Midnight Madness launch on Force Friday.

I work in a Wal-Mart and I know it would drive me crazy knowing the stuff was going to be sitting in the back unopened for that long. I would never put them out early though, because I wouldn't want to get the store or myself in trouble.

One of my local Walmarts back in 2002 received at least one case assortment of Episode II figures almost two months before their official release date and I scored a Daniel Logan Boba Fett figure many weeks before the April 2002 Midnight Madness launch of toys for Attack of the Clones. New movie figures tend to show up at many stores a month or two ahead of time so they're on-hand and ready to go after the in-store displays are assembled and the official launch date arrives.

The same thing happened for Episode I 3-D at the beginning of 2012. Some collectors found Episode I 3-D figures as early as November of 2011 because random stores would put their January 30, 2012 figures on the pegs far earlier than they were supposed to. We'll probably see a lot of other stores break the rules and put the new stuff on their sales floors before Force Friday.

Target and WalMart also had exclusive figures and other toys at the time. Diamond also exclusives and were in competition, although normallly at the time Diamond were pretty behind in their orders, but comic book shops did have a slight advantage in the ordering.

I've work for a retailer and I have had to lock up product for that. The penalties for breaking contract are severe in the retail world. I mean, my employer is a smaller company in comparison to Wal-Mart and Target, and I know that the it was strict that we follow the rules, keep the product locked up and do not violate them or repercussions will result.

If I honestly don't think that Disney will put up with any shenanigans from any company who plays fast and loose with the rules. Depending on the nature of the contract, a whole chain could be risking missing out.

Not saying that it won't happen but companies will not be kind.

I work for a franchiser of a huge chain of stores in this country, and when the last Harry Potter was released, it was ofcourse under embargo. In one of the other stores of that chain, someone was stupid enough to not only open the box (which had a HUGE sticker on it and text on the sealingtape), but also shrug and leave the box unattended at the cash register. 5 copies were sold that day, huge fine for the headoffice.

Stuff like this is taken very, very serious.

BTW, what is up with the random stormtrooper being on the cover of ESB? Should have been Boba Fett or Yoda IMO.

Also, why does every cover show a villain except for AOTC? Why not just put Dooku or Jango Fett on it? Then if you had Boba on ESB you'd have a Fett on each second movie.

Either Count Dooku or Jango Fett would have been a much better choice than CGI Yoda for the Episode II box. Yoda just looks completely out of place surrounded by villains of the Saga.

Yeah, I won't indulge in purchasing these. That whole set up looks silly.

I prefer the movie poster covers. If they want to do the metal stamping, why not do a stylized version of the logo, or a mix of heroes and villains.

With all these star wars purists running the show there has to be a remastered theatrical cut in the cards at some point.
