Hilarious that the Reds challenged a cubs triple into a home run.

I think he was arguing for a ground-rule double since Coghlan was on third. I assume ump review would have verified the homer in any case.

Castro sitting for game 1 of today's doubleheader. Herrera 2nd, Russell at short.

Vogelbach is absolutely a career DH; the guy can hit and he can get on base but holy holy holy shit he's fat.

So Vogelbach is as bad at 1B as Schwarber is at C? If so, maybe they both need to go to AL teams. It would be a hard sell to another NL team,
unless that team was delusional enough to think they could mold them into position players.

SCHWARBOMB ties the game!

SCHWARBOMB #2 wins the game.

The first one looked like he was swatting at a fly, and the ball went into orbit.

Not as effortless a swing as Rizzo has, but close.

It's the not-so-hidden ball trick.

ETA: The Cubs are getting their asses handed to them in Game 1, but a stolen base for Scwarber? The Reds' pitcher must have dozed off.

God, I saw that on my phone and just found the video. He got a good jump and then, man, that moose just started motoring. I had to laugh that he built up so much momentum that he over-slid the bag.

Good grief! Matt Kemp's effort today on a Buster Posey line-drive wasn't much better. I don't know why he dove, as he would never have caught the ball; it was sinking too fast. On a somewhat related note, Kemp seems to be letting his body go. He's much more rotund than I remember.

If memory serves, back in December when Kemp was traded but then had issues with his physical almost causing the deal to be derailed, word leaked that he has arthritis in both hips.

Surprisingly fast for a big guy. They need to get him away from being a catcher before his knees start going.

He wasn't even that fast -- Leake had a slow delivery, Schwarber got the mother of all jumps and the throw from the plate was terrible (Barnhart would have had him but he rushed the throw), but man, that is a play I did not expect to see today.

You're right. Kemp is a disaster, as have been most of the Padres off-season acquisitions. Only Justin Upton seems to be pulling his weight.

I know, I just think it's funny how it played out, such a Bryan Price move.

^ In what way?

I mean, obviously Fernandez didn't intend to hit Peralta, but intent is irrelevant - retaliation is still accepted. Doesn't matter if the original HBP was intentional. Even the Marlins manager knew that.

retaliation is still accepted.

It's a fucking game and anytime you're intentionally hurling an object at 90+ miles an hour at another human being, you're a jackass. "Retaliation" is childish to the point of being infantile.

That's why Leone didn't throw at Yelich's head, and not at his fastest speed. He threw just hard enough to send a message. That's how retaliation works.

That's debatable. But in the end, it's not going away; every team does it, and will continue to do so.

And that's what's fucking infantile; there's no "message" that needed to be sent.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

^ If the original HBP is intentional, then the message is obviously, "Don't do that again." If it was not intentional, the message is "Keep better control of your pitches."

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Because guys coming off Tommy John surgery never have control issues.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

I wish more pitchers would show concern when they hit a batter and not just when you hit them in the head. It has always irked me that pitchers don't make some sort of show of non intent when you hit a batter. Its the biggest reason for stupid shit like retaliation.

Retaliation in this case is fucking stupid and the Diamondbacks TV guys who justified it (was that Brenley?) sounded like morons.
