A random thought struck me today that made less and less sense the more I thought on it.
At the end of "Caretaker" when Voyager and the raider take on the Kazon, its two against two until the mothership arrives on the scene. Voyager's weapons array is hit and the raider is sacrificed to take out the mothership.
That leaves two against one (with a damaged weapons array).
Janeway contacts the Kazon to tell them to back off, after he tells her that he has called for reinforcements. Voyager destroys the Array and the Kazon calls to say that they've made an enemy today.
Why didn't they press the attack? Two ships could easily have kept Voyager busy until other ships arrived to help finish them off--especially given all the damage the starship had taken up to that point. So why quit?
