A light bar wouldn't look as low-tech as everything else does.
All of this stuff screams "ghostbusting on a shoestring budget."
It's brilliant because it's a hearse.
Eh, that giant light though looks pricey. Maybe they should have had one of those magnetic "plop on the roof" detective-car things?![]()
That also would have been a great reference to the 1984 Ghostbusters video game where one of the four vehicle choices was a Beetle.Just for laughs, I would have made it out of a classic VW Bug.

This doesn't. It's different.

That's the thing that drives me nuts about fans. If Feig had done everything exactly the same -- costumes, props, car -- people would be bitching, "Well, if they're just doing the same movie all over again, why bother?" Feig changes things up, and everyone's bitching, "That looks nothing like the original!" It's a lose-lose proposition.
The movie will succeed or fail on its own merits, not based upon how much it adheres to or differs from the original. Jesus Christ.

The video game is more a nostalgia trip and amalgamation of locations and plot points from the first two movies, though I admire the Terminal Reality writers for their grasp of comedy.

The best thing that game did was get the characters down right, plus the involvement of the actors, I feel helped elevate it.

The siren light was also on the 1981 - 1984 S&S hearse, which forms the chassis of this Ecto-1:
