Ghostbusters 2016: Talk about the movie(s).

A light bar wouldn't look as low-tech as everything else does.

All of this stuff screams "ghostbusting on a shoestring budget."

Eh, that giant light though looks pricey. Maybe they should have had one of those magnetic "plop on the roof" detective-car things? ;)

Wow, don't think they could have made it look any uglier. I realize it's "just a car" and yadda yadda... but the original movie hearse had all these interesting curves and a glossy white paintjob and it all just seemed to fit together perfectly and make sense. And I always loved the way they took such and an old and ugly car and somehow made it look really cool.

This looks more like a bad, cheap, fan-made Ecto-1 in comparison.

The original Ghostbusters had the stylistic sensibilities of comic book superheroes, with the fancy gear, cool car, and all that.

This doesn't. It's different.

That's the thing that drives me nuts about fans. If Feig had done everything exactly the same -- costumes, props, car -- people would be bitching, "Well, if they're just doing the same movie all over again, why bother?" Feig changes things up, and everyone's bitching, "That looks nothing like the original!" It's a lose-lose proposition.

The movie will succeed or fail on its own merits, not based upon how much it adheres to or differs from the original. Jesus Christ.

Yup. This is why appealing to hardcore fans of any property is a fool's errand.

Fans will either appreciate it for being different, or be insufferable jerks who refuse to like it because it's different. There's nothing anyone can do about the latter.

When Harold Ramis died that was the end of that - hell, the videogame is practically the third movie.

The more they duplicated from the original the harder it'd be for people to accept this new take.

The video game is more a nostalgia trip and amalgamation of locations and plot points from the first two movies, though I admire the Terminal Reality writers for their grasp of comedy.

I thought the game was pretty fun.
I like the new car, it fits in pretty well with the other stuff we've seen. It's obviously based on the original, but still it's own thing. That is exactly what I look for with this kind of remake.

Wow, no need to blow a gasket. I wasn't expecting it to look like the original car, and have no problem with something being reinterpreted (I'm one of the few on here that doesn't freak out every time there's a new superhero costume reveal, or a new Enterprise redesign, etc).

I just happen to think the design for this Ecto-1 is fugly as hell, is all.

The best thing that game did was get the characters down right, plus the involvement of the actors, I feel helped elevate it.

Yeah, like I said, I was pleasantly surprised the writers did so well.

The red trim seems a bit odd to me, but overall E1 doesn't look too bad. I'm reserving judgment at this point.

The siren light was also on the 1981 - 1984 S&S hearse, which forms the chassis of this Ecto-1:

:wtf: What's the siren light on a hearse used for?

Where I live a hearse on its way from church to burial site is allowed to go through red lights along with the cars making up the funeral procession. The siren is used as it is with emergency vehicles to make its presence known to other vehicles before proceeding.
