What's the difference between a trekkie and a trekker?

There is no difference. They, like all labels, represent the inherent insecurity of gregariousness.

Just enjoy the show.

I'll just repeat something from Sherlock Holmes fandom that I quoted here a few years ago:

"English Sherlockians like to call themselves Holmesians; American Holmesians like to call themselves Sherlockians."

-- William S. Baring-Gould

And the Benedict Cumberbatch fans are SHERLOCKED.

I thought they were Cumberbitches? Seriously, he's said so himself -- that's what they call themselves!

That's what I thought too. Wasn't going do say anything though... was being prim and polite...

No one got my Moffat joke?

In Trekkies the documentary it's basically explained no one really has an exact definition.

I prefer Trekkie personally but it's a meh debate.

<respectful snip>

Meh I think you have to appreciate how obnoxious fans could be in the mid 90s.

Learning to speak Klingon, etc stuff got obnoxious, absurdly so. I don't think it's insecure to not wanna be associated with people who took there self respect and dignity and flushed it down the tubes.

Thankfully this trend died away, but it's easy to forget just how obnoxious fans of anything(especially sportS) can be.

"In your opinion", correct?

Because a lot of us did NOT consider our "...self respect and dignity..." being flushed down the toilet, as we pursued our Fandom.

In your opinion.[/Q UOTE]
UH oh, Autistoid! Now you've pissed off the wanna-be Klingons. You know, the ones from TOS, who were really just humans pretending to be Klingon... Because, we all know the real Klingons are the ones born with ridges.:guffaw:

Trekkie Trekkie Trekkie

Seriously, though, you all make good cases for your choices, and it seems to depend on, in no particular order, Age, Level of Caring, Investment in the "Gestalt" of the thing, and a little bit FandoMania! But I do like that We are Us, when it comes to Star Trek! :techman:
+1 :techman:
Guys, guys, let's remember the real enemy.

THE JUDEAN PEOPLE'S FRONT!
WTF?!

Cue Klingon Battle Music...don best Con uniforms...suck in paunch...head to the Command Center in the Basement...whoops, better take out garbage first...

And we'll you did!

..wonder if the Good Doctor knows or is related to Davy Jones in Pirates of the Carribean? I read somewhere he actually got the part of Will Turner. Not sure why that did not turn out!?!

I don't care for either "Trekkie" or "Trekker;" they're so twee. What's wrong with just being called a fan of STAR TREK, without the corny moniker from half a century ago? Some fandom traditions deserve a merciful death and this should be amongst the very first to go - especially now that STAR TREK has finally earned mainstream acceptance ...
