Will they go back to primeTrek after nuTrek finishes?.

I like Michael Dorns idea for a series. The timeline he wants is messed up though. it should be placed after nemesis. Probably wont get made but it would be cool to see worf back and in command. Link below.

I think 'Captain Worf' would be DOA. The character has been way overused in universe.

But we never have had a Klingon Starfleet captain. I would be interested to see how Worf handles being a captain on deep space missions.. It would be cool to see if anything Picard taught him stuck.

It would... otherwise he'd be courtmartialed.

To quote the great Captain Kirk

"young minds, fresh ideas, be tolerant"

I applaud the sentiment, but I can't resist pointing out that that particular quote referred to the shiny new transwarp drive on the Excelsior.

And we all know how successful that was! :)

Still, the sentiment has its virtues.

This sounds familiar:

James T. Kirk: The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
Spock: An Arabic proverb attributed to a prince who was betrayed and decapitated by his own subjects.
James T. Kirk: Well, still, it's a hell of a quote

I'm not reading through fifty seven pages of thread but here's my answer:

Any new creative team that takes over will have their own ideas of how to do Trek. It's not Prime vs. Nu. Robbenberry, Harve, B&B and JJ all had their shot, and when someone new comes in, they will have their own vision and take on it. Even something SAID to be in continuity with JJ or Berman Trek will probably end up being something basically new. I think thats great.
Conceivably, there could be a re-imagining comparable to NuBSG.

There are different possibilities.

A. "Prime"

1. 2150s - 2160s ("now" circa 2165)
2. 2250s - 2290s ("now" circa 2315)
3. 2360s - 2380s ("now" circa 2392)

Any new production could be set as a prequel, sequel or contemporary to those established above. The "now" dates would be important if some of the same actors were to appear so that they would be age appropriate.

B. JJverse

1. 2250s-2260s

Any new production could be set as a prequel, sequel or contemporary to the one established above.

C. Reboot/Reimagination/3rd Timeline

1. Any century or setting. Wide open.

Those appear to be the possibilities and I have no idea what future Trek will be. Depends on who they hire, and what they are willing to do. I am sure directors/producers/showrunners of sufficient stature will have all manner of different ideas. While any of the above could be the setting for great storytelling, I can see the appeal of C. The chance to give a completely new/fresh take on the whole thing.

Star Trek is more than just its continuity. It's also the basic premise and format and many of its distinguishing story elements: starships, transporter beams, Klingons, Vulcans, mind-melds, etc. I mean, I suppose you could keep all that stuff and call it something else, but then people would just accuse you of ripping off Star Trek. :)

Take Batman, for instance. We've had umpteen different versions and continuities, but as long as you've got a Batman, a Bat-Cave, a Batmobile, Gotham City, Catwoman, and so on . . . well, you've got a Batman show. Regardless of whether it's set in the same "universe" as one of the last six versions.
Robin Hood would be an excellent example of this sort of thing.
There is the concept of another BSG re-imagining, www.quora.com/if-BSG-were-reimagined-again-should-it-be-more-like-Star-Trek-TOS

And King Arthur, Aladdin, Sinbad, Snow White, etc.

I believe they would return to Prime trek. CBS owns the tv rights but not the movie rights. It's in their interest to preserve, and create more prime universe trek. Paramount owns the movie rights. So CBS would need to deal with Paramount in order to create nuTrek tv shows.

The whole reason Abrams left Trek was because he wanted to kill the Prime universe completely from existence, and CBS wouldn't oblige because it would kill their merch sales and syndication? The possible new Trek TV show might have a new flavour to it, but it will be prime trek.

Correct me if I"m wrong, but that's how I understand the dynamic of Trek at the moment.

Abrams' empire-building makes a good story but he's not going to be able to coopt the Star Wars machine (Disney) any more than Star Trek (Paramount/CBS).

Dealing with 1 entity is a bit different than dealing with 2 different entities with different agendas.

He's not co-opting Disney to remove the original trilogy from canon and merch. Abrams is doing with Star Wars exactly what he wanted to do with Star Trek.

These statements seem to me to be in conflict. Can you clarify and specify?

I don't understand what you're confused about?

Abrams wanted Star Trek Prime universe gone to have his unified canon on several mediums. CBS wouldn't oblige. Fact.

Star Wars is doing exactly what Abrams wanted to do. They defined canon, washed away the EU, and everything released by Disney Star Wars since september 2014 on every medium is canon. Fact.

This is all irrelevant to the thread anyhow. The post was about going back to Prime trek. Which I stated CBS and Paramount have conflicting interests. And CBS owns the TV rights. The Abrams point was merely an addendum, though I have no idea how you can be confused by it since it's all known facts, not conjecture.

Anyhow, THE POINT is if Trek were to return to TV, it is on CBS's terms. Since it's in their interest to preserve Prime universe, I stated that it makes sense that a new Star Trek show may have a new flavour, but it will take place in Prime universe.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but nuTrek is a Paramount property, which would require a deal between CBS and Paramount to bring that property to TV. Which makes no sense for CBS when they have their own agenda with Trek.

So, given a choice between the current popular movie version, and the dead from lack of interest TV version, CBS would go with the dead version?

TPTB at CBS haven't been interested in any new version of Trek on television for quite some time, and there's no evidence showing that's likely to change any time soon.
