That God-awful ST50 logo...

Hey that's really good!!!!
Aw heck, where's Dennis when you need him?

"NO."
I believe the actual quote is Cumber"NOPE!" - something I find patently obnoxious and boorish, but that's beside the point here.

And in any case, I disagree. It's a really good concept - just needs some artistic polish, is all. It's certainly better than the "official" dreck we've been subjected to.

This thread highlights the worst about some Star Trek fans. It's like they have Aspergers or something.

This is unnecessary. I know you've got a thing against "fanboys" but this thread is going just fine without the insulting comments.

Please don't continue.

Thanks.

I think the logo is crappy too. Hopefully the Smithsonian event and others will make up for the lack of effort put into this logo.

Seems appropriate based on all the money I've spent on Trek over the years. If I had any photoshop skills, I'd put Vulcan ears on Grant and a Starfleet delta on his lapel.

How about something quick and crappy?

Yep,it does need a little polish. There are a few rough spots and some changes I'd make given time and inclination, but overall I Iike it and thought I'd throw it out there. Thanks for the feedback, both positive and negative.

Perhaps you'd like to contribute a design yourself, unless you're just hoping for a participation medal for being rude and a killjoy, which you've excelled at in this thread?
I'm not an artist - I do "programmer art" - but I know what works for people since I do graphical UI design and implementation in software. All of the logos in this thread are better than what I could do - even the crappy ones. I take others' work and make it look good on the screen. But I'll take your award since the idea of contributing graphical suggestions to this thread instead of just complaints, which is turning out to be pretty productive, was my original idea. Make sure it's attractive - I'm fairly demanding.

Yeah, you've mentioned that, twice now. It's not coming off desperate for attention at all.

I figured I'd take a second crack at it, and use stuff from the show this time!

This is nice as a large-format placement. The planetary outline with atmosphere, smartly devoid of surface detail, is great with a sunrise effect. It would break down well to a smaller image where placement on limited spaces is necessary, and still be legible, by omitting the ships completely and reframing, though I find myself wishing the ghosted "50" layer weren't there fuzzing it up, and distracting from the Starfleet emblem. It already says 50 in the subtitle. Why duplicate information where every pixel is important? I'd make a choice between a subtitle with "50" or some better "50" effect similar to what you have. I like how the ships span the 50 years. And I think the Enterprise is the right choice for both ships despite a variety of choices to represent the vessels the way Star Trek Enterprise did in its opening credits. I like that the ships are not in symmetrical poses - makes it more interesting. And I like how your letters are outlined well enough to make the logo remain legible when reduced because shadowing disappears as it shrinks. It's not too busy with detail, which is good, but a few subtle stars - only a few - would be nice.

Nice work, Gaz. There's something genuinely emotional about that design that's getting me right. . .points paw at chest.

It immediately made me think of those who are no longer with us. :( Don't ask me why. It just did.

I hope you don't mind, but your work is now my Windows wallpaper.

Good Lord, I've just found your website. I doff my hat to you, Sir.
