That God-awful ST50 logo...

I don't see anything wrong with it. Beside it the delta that is on the gold service/commendation pin-on. It the same one that is send in Star Trek Voyager and later season of DSN.

Thanks, yenni! :)

30th logo will always be the best, imho.

Agreed.

For Trek fans who are also Freemasons?
Speaking as a Freemason of 18 years, I'm not entirely sure how. Just because it has a single letter in the middle? Wrong one, first of all. Should be a "G", not an "L". Second of all, just no... :vulcan:

Hey, 137th I meant NO offense at all! Just going for a different "minimalist" look, and still pretty new to creating and posting pics. Sorry if I unintentionally crossed a line , and I will request "delete" if I did. I thought "L" was the Roman Letter to denote the numeral 50? Did I miss something with "G". Sorry you did not like my design.
Not at all - PM sent. Liked the design a lot, actually. Sorry for the confusion. Should have been more clear.

Can anybody do authentic Klingon and Vulcan logos?
I'm afraid I'm no graphical designer. In fact, graphical designers have been known to hiss and throw holy water at me. But, anyhow, here's an attempt:

The big, green text reads Hov leng, which is Klingon for "Star Trek".
The red text in the middle combines the symbols for 5, 0 and D, where the D might stand for DIS ("year"), or possibly the ordinal suffix -DIch (-th; vaghmaHDIch = "50th").

And then there's the sword of Kahless (source) spouting flames or something because, in the immortal words of Dr. Frasier Crane: "If less is more, then imagine how much more more will be!"

Best. Logo. Ever. (or so far, at least!) :techman::bolian:
We should talk to AntonyF about sticky post/banner of this as board logo for the anniversary.
Anything that's a copyrighted or trademarked item (the delta, "Star Trek") wouldn't be allowed, lest the Paramount and/or CBS lawyers smack us down. (We went through this a few times in the past when posting ideas about possible board logos.)

These ideas are FOR Paramount to replace their sucky version.

MajQa! naD jIH Qap!

"L" is the Roman numeral for 50.
Gosh, really?
Believe it or not, not everyone knows the various Roman numerals. Your sarcasm is unwarranted.

Your previous post implied that I made my comment due to some sort of error, which I didn't. The b/w image vaguely reminded me of a masonic diagram, and the L could be a substitute for G, or a set-square. I don't know why this has blown up into an issue; it was just a little joke.

(Yes, very little.)

The Official Logo for the 50th does exactly what it's supposed to do, there's nothing inherently "wrong" with it, other than that it's boring. Unfortunately, everything official is usually boring and I don't know why that is. For example, if you go to a fansite, their images, screencaps and information are usually much more interesting while official sites are usually pretty tame. Official sites have the clout and they may be formatted in the proper way, but the contents just don't fuel the imagination, at all.

That's probably because fan-run websites and fan-made artistry are generally built over long periods of time out of a love and/or passion for the subject matter. It means more to the person doing the creating than, say, a corporation that wants something done as quickly as possible without investing a lot of time and money in its creation. This maximizes profit margins but oftentimes provides less-than-inspiring results. On the rarest of occasions, you will have someone with fandom-level passion who is being paid to do something with such skill and ability, that they can knock out some top-shelf work quickly and efficiently that also appeals to other fans. I noticed this being the case a lot more during Trek's heyday back in the 90's. It fizzled out in the 2000's and is pretty much non-existent in this decade. In many ways, I think that most people have stopped caring about...well...everything. Bleak times we live in these days, my friends. :(
