Favorite aspect of Star Trek?

The characters. I love the interplay between Kirk and Spock, or Riker and Picard. Other series sometimes suffered because the characters took time to develop to have a raport that seemed to come quite naturally to other actors and their characters.

I think Spock, in all iterations, is probably one of the most fun psychological characters to analyze.

Spock, Data, Odo, Seven of Nine (even her). I liked the "outsider" characters in each series, except for T'Pol, who might have been cool if the actress behind her could actually act. It always made the shows more interesting.

The gernal idea, at least in most of TOS and TNG, that space series don't have to be attack and fight episodes or evne necessarily have a human or alien opponent (take "Cause and Effect" for example) that that it's okay to talk, think, or even have no shaky cams (unless the ship is struck ;-).

Whether it be the consequences of "The City on the Edge of Forever" or Picard and a Romulan commander exchanging less than plesant though veiled words with each other rather than, "I will destroy you!"/"I double dog dare you!"


It wasnt' always perfect and it occassionally guve us things like goddamn space hippies and "Code of Honor", but at least it tried.

I'm not even kidding, sure, mistakes are bound to happen, but watching TNG, DS9, VOY back-to-back/simultaneously was a pretty cool experience.

I like the sexiness of TOS admittedly. Maybe that "cheapens" the show but I like the decor and look from a purely aesthetic standpoint. It's super corny for a serious take on the future, but stylized it's pretty cool.

That doesn't even make any sense. Twenty years separates TOS and TNG, that is a whole generation of change to account for.

I just love everything about Star Trek. The action, the adventure, the exploration, the social commentary, the character relationships, the comedy, the drama, the continuity... Whatever comes with the episode or the movie, I know I'll pretty much enjoy. Perhaps at different levels of intensity, but I haven't seen a Trek episode or movie that I didn't like.

Star Trek is like pizza (to use the old "Sex is like..." joke) When it's good, it's really good. When it's bad, it's still pretty good.

Many episodes and movies of Trek have their flaws. (What doesn't?) Those flaws hardly ever interfere with my overall enjoyment.

If you are judging by today's standards, it may seem like camp. However, by the standards of the 1960s, Star Trek was not camp. In fact, it was rather serious, as well as, fun television. It only appears so, because you are judging it out of context. Perhaps, you just had to be there back when.

Being gay, unloved and suicidal, Star Trek was my hope. Seeing Spock, who was an outsider, and the pain it caused him at times... it helped to believe there was hope for the future... for me.

THE CAGE: For being the trek I wish we'd gotten a series out of.

TOS: The ship, mostly.

DS9: For spending several years being a straight up war story. For once a trek crew stopped trying to talk everything out and actually shot back smartly.

ENT: For showing humanity's first steps to the stars. (Mostly. It's like you get shot if you create a trek crew without at least one alien.)

TOS movies 2, 4, and 6: They did everything right.

TNG movie 2: The only one they got right.

Agree. Definitely, including the starships and tech, I love the production designs.

All up, the characters. The heroes, the villains etc. Not necessarily because all the characters were likeable, but because they were interesting. That's probably why I had such a hard time getting into TNG when I rented the S1 DVD's, but loved Ds9's motley crew. I imagine if be a lot harder on VOY if it hadn't had The Doctor, Seven etc. I like me some dynamics.

I also liked how when Star Trek succeeded in really being hard hitting, it was like a sledgehammer to the heart. Episodes like The Visitor or COTEF might have been the exception and not the rule, but boy did they work.

I also liked when they put on their big boy pants and flat out tackled an issue (like in Far Beyond the Stars... and Chain of Command) instead of putting on a face painted analogy that was then wrapped in an oblique metaphor, lest they actually bother someone.
