Looks like DS9 will not get Blu Ray

And as far as sales figures for Blu-Ray, I have not been able to find anything definite for the Blu Ray's since March 2013 (the release of Season 3 and The Best Of Both World's). Since then, in terms of sales figures, all that's available is pure speculation.

Except you have people who are involved that said the project did not do well.

Hang on to that dream, but I have a feeling it will always be just that.

Yeah tomswift2002 not many of us think it will happen but if you turn out to be right, all the indicators are wrong and DS9 Blu is just a matter of waiting, probably a lot of people in here, myself included, will be pleased.

I don't expect DS9 or any of the other series to get the Blu-Ray remastering treatment (though I guess Enterprise doesn't need it since it was filmed in HD) because from what I've heard, the sales for the TNG remastering aren't great, and even though DS9 is a great series (my personal favorite Trek), it doesn't have the legendary status of TNG. I've been rewatching TNG on Amazon Prime which gives the Blu-Ray remasterings for free, and I can never go back to the original format. I do hope they do it with DS9, but I won't hold my breath. The most we'll probably have to settle for is the DS9 remasterings in the TNG episodes featuring the station.

HD is going to be infuriating.

"Her spots are never the same!? WTF sort of circus is Behr running here? Do her spots change with her mood on any given day, or was there changeling infiltration as far back as season one??!"

If the poor sales figures for TNG blu-ray are correct, then that means the general public wasn't interested in it. Based on poor sales figures the general public doesn't care about TNG, but DS9 is the more popular series among Star Trek fans. So it is possible DS9 would actually sell better than TNG. I personally don't think it would be enough to convince the suits to remaster DS9, unless remastering can be done cheaper.

Now if my supposition that DS9 will sell as well as TNG is correct, then the question becomes how much can be spent on a remastering project and still be profitable?

I'm currently watching Farscape on blu-ray, and even though it didn't get a proper HD remaster it is a slight improvement over the DVDs in terms of picture quality. Of course it had the advantage of existing in the higher resolution PAL format but even so there could be a slight improvement if DS9 was given the same treatment.

The main reason I double-dipped on the Farscape Blu-rays was because of the special features. If loads of new specials features were added to a non-HD remastered DS9 blu-ray I would buy it.

While it has its niche, I don't believe DS9 is/was or will ever be more popular among fans than TNG was.

Exactly. The idea that DS9 is more popular than TNG among Star Trek fans — collectively — is an extraordinary claim, to put it mildly. There's no evidence for it, and the ratings would in fact be evidence against such a claim.

I'd like to have a hit of whatever crack you're smoking.

The readers of the UK Star Trek magazine voted it the best series around 2005/2006. Just an indicator.

A non-scientific poll of self-selected entrants? No, not an indicator, really. But just out of curiosity, how many ballots were cast in that poll?

Literally dozens.

To add to that, how many people here, who love TNG actually purchased the sets at full price?

Once they are heavily discounted there is much less margin in them, really CBS were betting on obsessive Trek fans queuing for the stores to open, and not that many did.

I did buy all the TNG sets on pre-order, but TOS I'm buying in sales and ENT I bought in sales (hard to re-watch, a lot of it sucks).

Full MSRP or average retail price? People are suckers if they paid $129.95 for the sets. I averaged about $60/season (IIRC) buying the first five seasons on day one.

I don't bother buying individual sets anymore. I bought the TNG Season 1-7 Blu-Ray set a few months ago when Amazon dropped the price to £120.

I also have the TOS and ENT Full Journey Blu-Ray sets. My OCD goes mental every time I look at my shelf and see only 3 out of a possible 5 series. Come on CBS, for the sake of my sanity, release DS9 and Voyager on Blu-Ray!!!!

Just buy some Blu-ray cases to store those DVD's in! :techman:

This. With Shopkick for BB gift cards, plus the earlier Target deals with the Blu-ray seasons sets along with the single-episode releases, I may have even done a hair better.

$130 is like late-80's VHS prices!

A decade ago?

Another survey in the same magazine a couple of years earlier named Voyager the most popular series IIRC.

I hope you're not a Stargate fan.

SG1 DVD, Atlantis Bluray and even worse, Stargate Universe : season 1 Bluray, season 2 DVD only...
