Marvel All New, All Different - Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

You're aware that it's sexist to call Thor Lady Thor?

No one calls the other Thor Man Thor, and calling Prince Thor Sir Thor would be a demotion that would award the person making the mistake in protocol a smacked melon.

I personally don't care, but it's always rubbed me the wrong way whenever someone calls Q Lady Q, when all the other Q with the pretence of peckers, are all definitively Q.

Hey, is Miles still calling himself Spider-Man?
Lady Q isn't the only one differentiated like that, we do also have her and Q's son q, and in the books Amanda Rogers contiues to use her name. Most of the other Q we met where only in one or two scenes so they weren't really significant to need their own names. If more of them played a bigger role, I'm pretty sure they would have gotten their own names.

As for Lady Thor, I don't really see it as sexist, it's just a way to tell her apart from the Odinson.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

If it isn't sexist then someone thinks you're an idiot, I'm an idiot, and we're all idiots.

They're all called Q.

That's funny.

If they're not all called Q, then it's not funny.

At school for one year I shared a room with 5 women (girls) called Rachel, and we muddled along fine. Meanwhile the classroom next door had three kids called Tim, and the teacher felt the compulsion to rename all these boys to Tim1, Tim2 and Tim3.

A little pathetic?

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

No, he wasn't?

(Seriously, maybe that's how you were talking in your circle of friends 20 years ago, but that distinction is far too much effort for no reward whatsoever.)

And later after Eric became Thunderstrike, did anyone call him Masterson Thundertrike, just in case anyone ever also took the name Thunderstrike, which wouldn't have helped since it was his kid Kevin who became the next Thunderstrike, which means that there were both Masterson Thunderstrike.

Let's use the African American litmus test.

Whenever you're unsure if you're being an asshole to womankind, substite what you are doing or saying with a similar African American problem (my entire body just wrenched as I typed "African American Problem".).

Is Sam Wilson currently Captain America or Negroid Captain America?

Oh!

Back when Hank Pym was calling himself the Wasp.

Was it really necessary to call any one Dude Wasp when his unstable molecule tousers were so tight you could usually read the lines on his ####?

Rumor mill time...

Could the new Hulk be...

... Amadeus Cho? If the rumor is true, the book book will be headed up by Cho creator, Greg Pak with art by Frank Cho (no relation), who has written and drawn Amadeus in the past. (Rumor found here.)

If true, this will be the first post-Secret Wars book where I can honestly say, "I'm in".:)

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

i'd love for Pak to write Hulk centric stories again. loved his run.

Well this would be the third time that he has come and saved the book from incompetence. First from Daniel Way then from Jeph Loeb and now from the reign of Aaron/Waid/Duggan. The man is truly our lord or savior.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

I am maddened by every new episode of Agents of S.M.A.S.H. where Skarr is not revealed to be the Hulk's son.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

I have never been less interested in what Marvel is doing than right now. I do not want to read not-Hulk, not-Thor, not-Captain America. Sure for short term story reasons the characters will leave and be replaced or take new identities but just changing for change sake rarely works.
I really dont want to read my books in seasons as that makes no sense at all. You dont have seasons in a print world, you just keep printing month after month year after year. Creators come and go, editors change, but the characters keep marching on. To now say well the numbers on comics really dont matter is a slap in the face to those of us who have multi-decade collections.

But that is wrong. Change does sell.

Look at how well the Cap book did after Cap died and Bucky took over. It pretty much made Brubaker's reputation. Or the original NA launched by Bendis, which essentially made the Avengers into a comicbook franchise. Or Loeb's Rulk or the current Janethor, which I believe is outselling even the JMS relaunch and is matching the numbers from the 90s reboot with Jurgens.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Rumours about the new Hulk also might be Ultimate Reed. Over the weekend at Special Edition NYC apparently the Maestro will survive Battleworld as Old Man Logan is.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Is regular Sam Sterns evil? I remember he fought quite hard, like a real bastard to get his super intellect back in the 80s, which is when he went from tall forehead to testicle brow.

That could be a nice ripoff of Superior Spider-Man?

What about the other Hulk from the alt universe Thorr is from?

He can't become Hulk on his own because they lobotomised banner making him incapable of emotion, and therefore a sociopath.

S.H.I.E.L.D./Steve Rogers has him as a weapon last I checked. It's a remote controlled Hulk for ####s sake.

Interesting thing about the Maestro (in Secret Wars) is that his Banner is a #### too, although on reflection, there may be no Banner? It could just be the same personality driving both bodies.

Blonski makes no sense and would be rather shit.

If Stark became the Hulk, then what if Banner became Iron Man?

I miss Betty.

Banner becomes his mother?

"Hey Victor? Bud to bud... Every midnight dreary once a year when you match wits with Mephisto to recover your dead mothers tortured soul, you couldn't take a snoop around and see if my mom is down there too?"

Whatever happened to the Rainbow Hulk Brigade? Red Hulk, A-Bomb, Red She-Hulk, Skaar... you'd think they'd be front and center in the comics since they star in a damn cartoon.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

they all had their powers removed during the most recent Hulk story arc.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

I've been leafing through the Secret Wars tie-ins, and they're mostly interesting. A-Force was cool... Infinity Gauntlet had gorgeous art but the issue was basically a waste of time and the story didn't start until the last panel... Future Imperfect didn't interest me but Planet Hulk was fun... Inferno and X-Tinction Agenda get a pass just for reminding me of classic 80s X-crossovers...

I prefer calling her Jane Thor now.

I was thinking "the Foster Thor," since Eric Masterson's Thor is usually differentiated by fans (at least, in my experience) as "the Masterson Thor."

No, he wasn't?

Well, when people were first calling Jane/Lady Thor, Lady Thor the main reason they were doing that is because all they knew about her was she is a Lady. Now that her identity has been revealed we'll probably start seeing most people refer to her by some version of her name.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

She-Hulk.

Isn't it nice that they help us like that?

I have such trouble telling the difference between the She-Hulk and the He-Hulk?

A year ago there were 3 She-Hulks and 2 Hulks.

Well, one Hulk and one red Hulk.

No, there were three he-Hulks.

Actually only the mirror universe evil He-Hulk was calling himself Hulk.

616 Hulk was calling himself Doc Green, and briefly during the axis "Kluh"

3 She-hulks, and 3 He-Hulks.

He-Man toys are for boys and She-Ra toys are for girls.

Hmmm.

She-Thing, called herself Ms. Marvel most of the time.

The original Ms. Marvel dumped that name eventually because she's a person, and not the girl version of Mar-Vell.

The new Ms. Marvel wants to be the new Ms. Marvel and is probably too young to know about Mar-Vell and question the oppressive antiquity of her new name.

(googling for ten seconds, I actually have a person 10 feet away who can give me detailed facts on this, but she's also very serious.)

Mohtarama Marvel?

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Reports are Captain Marvel's in for some BIG CHANGES post-Secret Wars. Don't know what they are, but it's not a new costume.

My guess? A name change. They've realized DC's red, yellow and blue generic-supepower-set superheroine Kara Danvers is about to make it big in the public eye, and have decided that red, yellow and blue generic-superpower-set superheroine Carol Danvers is a bit too similar.
