"Agent Carter" season one discussion and spoilers

That makes sense, and I hope that's what they go with. 8 weeks was painful enough this season, and I like AoS enough that I don't think I'd even want a show I really liked to increase the wait.

Glad to see it's getting more episodes. I really hope Lyndsey Fonesca does come back, I liked he a lot in season 1.
I doubt we'll be losing any episodes of AOS for the extra episodes. I have a feeling it'll either the two hour blocks or maybe just less breaks for AoS. Was there anything that went on this season that preempted AoS episodes that won't happen next season?

I wouldn't mind seeing AoS lose a few episodes if it was in the name of tighter, cable-style storytelling. Though they did pretty good on that front in Season 2 by effectively structuring each half-season as a smaller season with its own storyline.

If they did that I'd be too afraid of the schedule not allowing for movie tie-ins. Admittedly their efforts on that front were far more interesting in season 1 than in season 2, but I still like the idea of reacting to the movies in real-time instead of waiting for the fall season.

I am glad that Agent Carter will return. Some of the story beats did not always resonate with me, but I quite enjoyed the show.

Does that mean there will now be 10 weeks between the first and second half of Agents of SHIELD next season? Because that really, really sucks, and I'd say that even if I didn't loathe Agent Carter.

I'd rather see a full run of Agent Carter with ten episodes of AOS in the middle.

I'm hoping AoS season 3 will be the last one. Although it's improved, it's still very poor and watching the fantastic Daredevil series proves how Marvel could be better using it's time and money.

Don't start me on bloody Agent Carter. None of the TV chanels over here purchased it, its not on cable, Netflix or PS+ and you can't buy it.

I'd love to have an opinion on it...

Well, I definitely don't agree. I loved Daredevil, but if I could only choose one, I'd go with AoS. I think AoS tells a tighter story than daredevil did, and has less lulls in the action, unlike Daredevil which had a weak middle part. If you don't like AoS, don't watch it. Canceling AoS doesn't mean any money would go to a netflix show anyway. Even if it did, AoS apparently has high enough ratings to keep going, and its probably not going to get cancelled unless it really goes downhill in ratings.

My head hurts.

Hey, I love Daredevil. It had a good hero, and Kingpin is probably the best villain in the whole MCU. But, it also had a few episodes were basically nothing happened, I think we even went a bit without any Daredevil action at all. It also could probably have

cut Ben Ulrich altogether
and not lost much. It was very, very good, but AoS, even at 22 episodes, has a faster pace and wastes less time, even if I found the real sHIELD vs. Fake SHIELD arc this last season to be intolerable. Basically, AoS felt like it took advantage of how much time it had. Daredevil kind of felt like a 10-11 episode story stretched to 13. Also, the heroes in AoS have a bit more personality than Matt Murdoch. He's good, but he's Nolan levels of mopey at times and
spends 75% of the series getting his butt kicked
. I love both shows, but for different reasons and if I could only have one I'd take AoS.

The storytelling in AoS just seems so superficial and the characters are so two dimensional - it's paddling in the shallow end. It tries very hard to fit in but really doesn't 'feel' like it's part of the wider Marvel universe. Daredevil does, somewhat oddly, as it's got less real ties. I'm about halfway through it - I'd give the worst episode 8/10 so far, which is probably better than I'd give any AoS episode.

I'd heard that AoS is rather expensive and only boderline ratings-wise, but that could be just hearsay. If it is in danger, I'd prefer it to have a planned end than just not get renewed.

And I'd just like to get to see Agent Carter...

Eh, I don't really agree. I find the original, non-evil main cast (Coulson, May, Skye, Fitz, and Simmons) likeable, and generally good characters. I definitely don't find it "shallow", but I don't find Daredevil particularly "deep", either. To me, AoS definitely feels like its part of the MCU. Daredevil actually fits in there for me too, although I know some people complained that the darkness didn't fit, which I disagree with. Daredevil's biggest problem is that it never let the show have real "light" moments.

It was a dark show, both literally and figuratively, and it wanted you to know it. I don't think it did a bad job of it (except for the generally atrocious lighting, they really need to physically brighten things up next season), but it didn't have much variety with its darkness. No Daredevil in the daylight, almost no action in the daylight, and every interior as dark as they could possibly justify. Plus, Matt brooded almost as much as Nolan's Batman. The series is saved by a generally good story, a great villain, and a main character who is interesting when he's not brooding. Its a very good show, but it relied too much on its "style" at times, to the point that I think it hurt the show to not have more variety in what they allowed in the settings and characters. Don't get me wrong, its probably in he top 5 live action superhero shows ever, but its not flawless, and I happen to like AoS a little better.

I'm glad you like AoS. I was excited about it, but it's just not worked for me. The Marvel universe is broad enough to have all types of shows in it, and I like that. I just wish that I liked AoS more.

A lot more...

That's a high bar of measurement.

Oh, I'd more than agree. In fact I'd struggle to think of another TV superhero show as good as Daredevil...

Yeah, I guess there hasn't been a lot of really good live action superhero TV. Still, I've definitely got a top 5 at least. For me, its

1. Flash (current version)
2. Agents of SHIELD
3. Daredevil
4. Arrow (Season 1 only)
5. Smallville

I'm sure when Legends of Tomorrow comes out it will end up replacing Arrow or Smallville on the list. Also, just because I can, I did rank the rest of a top 10 live action heroes list

6. Batman (Adam West)
7. Heroes (Season 1)
8. Flash 90s Series
9. Arrow (Season 2)
10. Birds of Prey

It's hard for me to call Agents Of SHELD a superhero show since non of them are in fact superheroes. But to my mind Agent Carter gave us more fleshed out characters and a better storyline than we've had in two years of AoS. They've made Carter an exceptionally resourceful character and gave the show a direction as well as being a period show and they did in a mere eight weeks.

From what I've read, AoS being renewed for a third season almost guarantees that it will get a fourth season to reach 88 episodes for that sweet, sweet syndication money. It's not 100% for sure going to happen, of course, but I guess if AoS was going to get cancelled, it would have made more sense to do it now than it will after next season.

I agree with you that Daredevil was fantastic and easily Marvel's best TV effort so far, but I don't agree that AoS is terrible and needs to be put down. It fills its own niche (it's basically Daredevil's polar opposite in terms of tone and pacing) and does a pretty good job of it. It's nothing amazing but it's improved quite a bit from its early episodes and is pretty fun to watch.

Yeah. In fact, the first advertisements even declared that, "Not all heroes are super". That said, AoS has had Quake, Mockingbird* and Deathlok, with the promise of a larger team of supers to come next season.

*They need to come out and use these names. Especially "Mockingbird". SHIELD has had agents code-named "Hawkeye" and "Black Widow" (and "The Cavalry"), so it's not an unprecedented thing.

I'll give it this, if season 3 is as much of an improvement over season 2 as 2 was over 1, it might be worth continuing with anyway.

Lets wait and see...
