Star Trek: Renegades

Will this still be made available to donors? I'm guessing not at this stage.

It will be very soon. What happened was we had a Fedcon version and a version for the backers. We had color corrections issues that almost prevented us from put out either. Since Fedcon was at a fixed and committed date we had to get that one done first to get it in for the Saturday showing. The backer version is being worked on now. We hope to get to out this week.

Wow, I finally watched the trailer and my heart skipped a few beats. What an amazing piece of work this movie looks to be. I can't wait to watch it. I'm glad I've finally started paying attention to fan productions, and (perhaps especially in the case of something with the likes of Tim Russ, Walter Koenig, Robert Picardo, Manu Intiraymi, et al) I'm sorry for not paying attention sooner. :P

I'm not a financial supporter, but I am a moral supporter. When will I be able to watch "Renegades" streaming on my seven year old computer in my comfy $40 recliner/cat scratching post?

In three words: it's a mess.

It features a ridiculous number of paper-thin characters with clichéd motivations (when we get any). The editing is clumsy and there's never any sense of tension or build up. They appear to be trying for a heist movie/Seven Samurai thing here, but fail miserably at that.

As to CBS: it's aimed so squarely at fans and so fan-wanky and ham-fisted it hasn't got a prayer of getting their attention.

Was everything destroyed ? and Universal Studios in Orlando used to have a ST attraction, I wonder if anyone was able to salvage any of it

Saw Renegades and what a disaster. Story is weak, script sucks, characters are uninteresting, and more fan service than any 10 fan films combined. Editing was awful, and the direction was lousy. Barely better than Of Gods and Men which was awful. People who worked on the film said behind the scenes was a nightmare.

Grand ambitions but Sky Conway is no film maker.

Saw it as well - totally NOT a disaster. Surely not Oscar-worthy, but very decent for a fan film. While I give you that the story is a bit convoluted - they probably tried too much. The script is not bad, some of the characters are very interesting. A little too much fan service at times, they tried to get too many characters in there. Editing was solid, direction ok, VFX sometimes great. It was LIGHTYEARS ahead of OGaM, which in itself is not a big accomplishment. Spreading rumours about nightmares is not very credible. If you post something like that, please specify!

The trouble is, with so much "pro" talent and a budget larger than some small indie films which are actually in theaters, it's no longer apt to treat productions of this scale with kid gloves. If they're not good, there's really very little excuse. And this one is not good. Most of the fault lies with a script that, sadly, is blandly derivative when it's not pure rubbish. The show's inability to build or sustain tension throughout makes it difficult to call the editing anything more than serviceable.

Correct, but this is...

"People who worked on the film said behind the scenes was a nightmare. "

 Working on the set was a blast for just about everyone there. Take it from someone that was there. Show me a source from that statement, Red Omega, otherwise it's another rumor with no merit.

As far as the film goes, many will like it and some will not like it, as is the nature of diversity with Star Trek fans. If you look at our Facebook page (and some articles written so far) you will see an overwhelmingly positive response. We will see where the general consensus lay when everything is said and done, but off to a good start.

And Maurice, no offence man, but after reading your posts in this section for years here, you don't generally care for any fan film except for Exeter, because you worked on it. Just saying...

I haven't seen it, can't say anything yet. I'm just wondering when it will be widely released.

^Agreed. I'd really like to see the film.

More than anything, this is really the thing the people making these fan films should really, really try to understand and learn.

And Maurice, no offence man, but after reading your posts in this section for years here, you don't generally care for any fan film expect for Exeter because you worked on it. Just saying..

This is unfair and inaccurate. And honestly, even if you were right about this, nothing he said in his previous post warranted such a character-assassinating comment from you.

I haven't seen Renegades yet, but I'm optimistic that I'll at least enjoy it, whether it's as good or as bad as you guys are saying. I just wish more of the people making these fan films would get off the whole "I did this as a labor of love, look how noble I am, I shouldn't have to deal with any kind of critical feedback!" and comments like this...

...just make me want to ask - do you guys do the same thing on the Renegades FB page?

Also, do you realize that in the same space where you criticized a poster for not liking your film, you also pointed out that some people will love it and some people will hate it? Are you just expecting people to blindly praise the film?

My statement is from me, as a member of trekbbs , I see certain people put down most fan films here with the expectation that should be treated as a multimillion dollar Oscar worthy epic. I do no intend to insult anyone personally, and my apologies if it came across that way. I do appreciate people honestly here. Part of doing this streaming was to also get feedback so we can correct something before the final version .

It quite surprises me that Renegades hasn't "leaked" online. That's not to say I want it to happen but when you offer copies to a few hundred people, it's unusual for it to stay on the downlow. All props for the fans though for abiding by the rules. :)
