The Mars One Plan in order to grow would need to have facilities that would actually produce a product. A product that could be used elsewhere in the Sol system as well as on Earth.

True, because humans haven't been around for millions of years. Although depending on your definition of "human", the genus homo has been around for about three million years... and for over 99% of that time, that's exactly how they survived.

I'm quite sure interplanetary colonists would have plenty to strive for without worrying about ferrying iron dust all over the solar system.

Elon Musk will severely damage one of his knees in the space effort. So the first colonists will make an artificial joint out of iron. (Oh, the iron knee.)

Yes, although most of those early humans were hunched over from traveling about in those continent-wide underground tunnels. :brickwall:

Maybe we should focus on figuring out if it's even possible to live on Mars before we start worrying about its economy.

If humans can live in space inside of a space station as well as living on the Moon for a few days I am certain that humans can live on Mars.

Its only a matter of getting their establishing a base of industrial infrastructure such as sending Martian Dust back to Earth to be sold that would then fund further expeditions to Mars.

Hell I would drink a Martian Soil and Tonic just to say that I did.
