Star Wars Past EU Officially Decanonized by Lucasfilm

Interestingly enough, if you look up TIE Fighter/Canon, the TIE Defender is considered to be Canon for some reason. It is one of the few none film TIEs that is.

There is the:
TIE/Ln (standard TIE fighter)
TIE Advanced x1 (Darth Vader's TIE fighter)
TIE Advanced v1 (Inquisator's TIE fighter in Rebels)
TIE Interceptor
TIE Bomber (With like the TIE/sh shuttle variant as well)
TIE/D Defender (It appear that Star Wars: Commander (2014), counts. At least for hardware).

The TIE Advanced v1 seems to be a less advanced version of Vader's TIE, though it has the folding wings of Darth Maul's ship. The Inquisator's TIE does not have a hyperdrive, but does have some missile capability as well as the two lasers that are standard for TIE fighters. It seems like the Advanced v1 was going to go intro production on Lothal after the 15th Empire Day celebrations.

I'm hoping to see the TIE Defender on screen someday. It was just too cool a design to let go.

I loved TIE fighters in general. A great design and they looked cooler than anything the Rebels flew.

I remember as a kid in '76 when trailers and teasers for Star Wars were playing, and being blown away by the look of these strange ships I would later learn were called TIE Fighters. (I never got to see SW until '78 I think...so just shortly after Battlestar Galactica premiered on ABC). It was one of what would be many of Star Wars' return engagements to the big screen.

I remember trying to mimic those sounds as well when my friends and I would play with our diecast TIE's and Xwings.

I would basically mimic the prolonged trumpet of an elephant for the TIE's, and I would apply a low hum to my whistle, which created an interesting harmony to mimic the whining sound of Rebel fighters. (funnier still, when I was 5 or 6, I would actually apply that harmonized whistle sound to my toy airplanes back in '73-'74 before Star Wars was even a blip on my little radar.)

I used to fill pads with little hand drawn battles between the Rebels and the Empire.

TIE fighters were way easier to draw.

Recently I've done some CG models of TIE fighters/interceptors/bombers, and an Imperial Star Destroyer and assault shuttle....but I've never tried the rebel ships...except for the Corellian Corvette (Tantive IV).

The TIEs I've done were not really meant to hold up to close up scrutiny. Since they are fast, darting ships, they would rarely be seen in closeups.

If I can get my computers fixed, or get better computers, I plan on making far better models for those ships.

I was never good at hand drawing much, even though I used to draw comics in school. I found later that I'm better at doing CG stuff. (Later meaning these last few years...a ha ha ha)

I'm terrible at drawing things, but probably one drawing that I was semi-proud of was a top down (dorsal) view of a Y-wing based off of my Micro Machine toy. It is still one of my favorite ships.

That said, I like TIE fighters and all their variations because they feel so uniform. You can take the wings/solar panels and redo the configuration and/or shape to suit the role. I was never a huge fan of the original TIE fighter. Vader's variant made more sense to me, but it never got more screen time. So, the TIE interceptor became my favorite movie one, with the TIE defender being my favorite overall.

Yeah, I think I liked the bent wing TIE's (X1, Bomber, Interceptor) better.
