Guess who's back? (Spoilers!)

I posted this in my old Osgood thread...beat me too it. Yes! Love Osgood. So little time but she made a big impression on me.

No, not a typo. I honestly thought Osgood was supposed to be the Brig's granddaughter because (I thought) I heard the Doctor reference Osgood's "grandfather", alluding to him being the Brigadier.

maybe as many other people have started doing, I should switch on captioning, because it appears I may be "hearing things".

Sincerely,

Bill

There's an UNIT operative named Osgood in "The Daemons". Fandom speculates she may be HIS daughter.

Maybe some people have that impression she is Kate's daughter because she says 'Mum' to Kate when the Doctor calls her phone (in DOTD) . Of course 'Mum' is a term used to address a higher ranking female, so maybe non-British folk did not know?

She does mention her 'better' sister in DOTD, so she does indeed have a sister. You are not crazy Redfern.

It's "Ma'am", not "mum." Some English people pronounce it as if there's an "R" in it.

Yes - from the transcript:

Excuse me. Ma'am. Ma'am!

That was Steve Moffat's intention: as he says in a recent DWM, there was originally a line stating that, and then he took it out as it was one of those fannish things that the fans would probably guess, but would mean nothing to the casual viewer.

So far far as the Ma'am pronunciation goes.. in a vaguely northern English accent, the town of Bath is Ba-th. In a vaguely southern one, it's Bar-th. The short R-less/long R-ed 'a' is often a big giveaway for northerners who've picked up a southern-ish accent (like my mum).

You might as well not bother with the spoiler tag.
The DW marketing people are plastering that shamelessly all over the Internet now. Impossible to avoid if you visit anything show related. :(

Unavoidable. If they stayed quiet, the tabloids would report it anyway, and when someone asks the BBC if its true, the BBC would be obligated to confirm it.

But then on the other hand, every time Kate shows up it gets bashed over our heads that she's the Brigadier's daughter.

Sgt Osgood was in one story in 1971. The Brig is pop culture collective memory, like Daleks and so on.

It was done because she's out shooting on location, so it's better to head off the tabloids and the set reporters.

So she's rocking 5's shirt and the Brig's jumper.

The photos of Jenna are quite interesting too as Clara seems to be taking fashion tips from Missy...

Eventually she's going to run out of Doctors to cosplay as. :)

This raises a question. Has she met the fifth Doctor, or is she relying on UNIT's photo archives?

I imagine this exchange in a series 10 episode:

DOCTOR: Osgood, I don't recognize your outfit.

OSGOOD: It's what you were wearing when we fought the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal five years ago. You know, when you were a ginger.

DOCTOR: I've never been a ginger.

OSGOOD: Oops.

DOCTOR: Where's River saying "Spoilers" every thirty seconds?

I was hoping for Captain Jack. At least they have a built in reason to bring him back. Would actually like to see a mini torch wood reunion.

Oh well.

In the finale of season 8, Missy asks Osgood to come over, the hint Osgood was her zygon duplicate was when she said, don't worry you dont smell half as bad as you think you do...

How much longer do we have to wait for her to wear Colin Baker's jacket.

We all know it's going to happen.

Well, its probably too awesome for her. The Jacket is a big responsibility. Anyone can pull off the 4th Doctor's scarf. But The Jacket is something else.

I say that while being the only person on Earth who loves the 6th Doctor's costume  Seriously though, I think the most we'd ever get is a cat pin on her shirt or something. It would be a definite sixth Doctor reference, without going too crazy. That said, I'd love if she just popped up wearing The Jacket, and absolutely no one says anything about it :rommie:

I dunno, I think Ingrid Oliver would look fantastic in the Jacket. :)

I think Kate Stewart would roll her eyes at Osgood, and the twelfth Doctor would say that it looks infinitely better on her than it ever did on him. She'd take the compliment seriously, though Clara would know the Doctor was mocking her.

I think Twelve would pull some look of disgust that makes great use of Peter's eyebrows and curl of the lip and say something like he never wanted to be reminded of that coat again, thank you very much.

I love that jacket!

:(

I was kind of happy that she snuffed it because I found her rather nauseating.

Should have known Moffat would bring her back. He can't let characters stay dead and latches on to the more twee ones*. Anyone want to place bets on whether Danny Pink gets resurrected?

* the Pond's kid and the Victorian Three Stooges.

I want back Lord President Fred. Ms. Ward or anyone as Time Ladies are fun. Plus the Doctor needs someone on his level aside from the Master.
