X-Files Revival Officially Ordered at Fox

Didn't "The Truth" show CSM's face literally getting melted off from rocket fire?

I mean, Carter has kind of written himself into a corner, there. William B. Davis isn't too far shy of 80, and he looks it, so I don't think flashbacks are really a viable solution.

Yes.

But maybe he got better?

Actually, with those shapeshifting Brian Thompsons running around, we don't really know, I guess. They did kill him off in the season 5 finale only to have him "survive" being assasinated and living in a cabin in Canada. And then later when he's dying of cancer, Krychek threw him down the stairs in his wheelchair, but he was not only ok but better after that. Maybe he has some Keith Richards blood in him.

I don't know if I'd go that far. They did use them for at least one issue of the Season 10 comic, and I believe Carter was involved with that and originally intended for it to be canon.

Random Spock, your link leads to a "private" video.

Any word on whether Doggett and Reyes are coming back too ?

I just don't see that happening. Maybe an inside joke or something, but I think they want to ignore that portion of the X-Files.

I don't know that they want to ignore it, but they probably feel like it'll be easier to attract new viewers if they don't waste time on extraneous characters and storylines.

This thing is only going to be 6 episodes long. The more stuff you try to include, the more time you have to waste on backstory.

Though you know what would be a funny story for Doggett and Reyes? After the finale, they went underground, and now they're the new Lone Gunman.

He said recently that it won't be canon.

Carter also clarifies that while he thinks that IDW's The X-Files: Season 10 plot lines are very interesting, they won't be used in the revival of the TV show.

I'd get it straight from the site, but it isn't loading well right now.

Another source: Screenrant's interview with him

Other tidbits from the interview: Carter confirmed that he will be including modern news stories into the limited series; the new series won’t be drawn from IDW’s The X-Files: Season 10; and the opening titles of The X-Files may be updated for the new show.

About the video: Yea I know :(. It got taken down by NBC. Glad I got a chance to see it before it happened.

Actually they're in discussion with the actors. Sadly the talks aren't going well though :(.

The X-Files looks sooooo good in HD! And it's not just the first 13 episodes anymore, now the entire first season is up in HD

I thought I'd take a look at netflix to see how good it looked in HD, couldn't find it as probably not available in the uk. (wasnt impressed so far, didnt have Agents of Shield which I've been watching recently)

TVLine.com is reporting that James Wong and Glen Morgan have officially signed on to write & direct an episode (each) of the revival series.

Also, Chris Carter says that there is a "big chance" that the Lone Gunmen will appear in the series and that he has received special dispensation from Fox to open each episode with a classic "cold" tease segment, just like the original series frequently did.

The HD version is pretty great. Hopefully, a complete series set on blu-ray is released after (or before:techman:) the revival episodes, much like the 24 complete series was released on blu-ray to coincide with the release of Live Another Day on DVD/blu-ray.

BTW, Habs Fan, thanks for posting that the entire first season is available in HD now. That is very useful information for my weekend plans.

Not too thrilled about that tbh. Hoping that they've grown enough to do a good job, but I'm still a little concerned.

Cool.

Don't really care either way about HD tbh. I have the series on DVD and it looks good enough imo.

Does that mean we'll get those twenty-second teasers with that music and that cheesy announcer: "Mulder and Scully are in trouble as a creature fo the night does horrible things. Next time on, The X-Files!"

Music: CHING CHING CHING CHING, KWUAAAHHHH

I figured they would ignore the comics. All I meant was that there is obviously enough interest in Reyes and Doggett that they used them there. Even if they don't appear in the new episodes, I would at least expect some references to what they are up to. I haven't seen many of the episodes with them, but it seems to me that they played to big of a role in the later years of the show to just ignore them.

Ah I see. Thanks for clarifying.

I wish it would work out in regards to the talks though :(. I would have liked to see them in the reboot.

Found an interesting new interview with Chris just recently: Here's the link

A couple of things stood out:

CP: What is their relationship now?

Carter: As we saw in the second movie they were together, not married. Living together. But when we come back we will find that relationship is not where we left it.

*there were other questions between these two*

CP: How have they changed?

Carter: They've grown up. They've matured, their sensibilities have matured, their relationship has matured and evolved.

I was a little worried given the first part of the statement, but the matured and evolved part... that has me interested tbh. Usually that's a good thing. Hopefully it will be in regards to them. Honestly it wouldn't be fair to them to have them break up.

We saw that in IWTB, we don't need to go though that again. It would be annoying as heck, having them broken up and then ending up together. That's one plot that's been used.

I'd honestly be surprised if they were married. Since it's the least expected path imo.

Reached by phone in Santa Barbara, Calif., earlier this week, the veteran showrunner discussed his long relationship with the city, returning to TV after a long hiatus, battling "puritanical" TV limits, and steering clear of a Mulder and Scully love scene.

Good luck with that one. It's one BIG elephant in the room, trumpeting its butt off :p.

CP: Such a big part of the show was the will they/won't they storyline and fans still haven't gotten a proper love scene. Mulder and Scully obviously had a child together, why was their relationship never explicitly consummated?

Carter: It was part of the mystery of "The X-Files." That relationship was kind of mysterious. Did they get together? Didn't they get together? If they've got a child together, when did they get together? These are questions that we will deal with and answer in good time.

CP: In these six episodes?

Carter: In a way.

Don't be a dodgeball, Chris :p. But tbh, it sounds like he's grown up a bit. So I'll give him a bit of a benefit of a doubt. But just a bit.

Thoughts you guys? :)
