A little strange Paramount is willing to put all this effort into FX, starship sets & alien makeup for "Galaxy Quest:The Series" but be unwilling to make the same effort a new Trek series.
Willingness has nothing to do with it. Paramount has no say in the matter.
What about David Thewlis as a replacement for Alan Rickman? Looks a bit like him and was supposed to play Hans' brother in Die Hard 3 but was nixed in favour of the more famous Jeremy Irons.
I think it's not so much the individual actor as much as will the actor commit to playing it as it should be. If they have in their mind, this is a silly spoof and it's all a big joke, then they will fail, because everyone in the movie was seriously playing their part, and played them well. The acting/direction in the movie is top notch, which is one of the reasons why it was so good. When Allen is playing disappointed/disillusioned toward the begining, it really brings the comedy parts into focus, when Rickman is talking to Quellek, especially right as he's dying, he has such strength and conviction, and his embarrasment in the tv commercial, it's all excellent.
These are some of the things I was refering to in my first post, this movie had a lot of heart and emotion besides the comedy.
So if they can keep that, then all new actors should be just fine, but I would hope they are good ones whoever they are.

I would prefer another movie. A Galaxy Quest tv series will lose its charm without the original cast.

One of the things I liked most abou GQ was the casting of Sigourney Weaver. Ripley as the actress annoyed about having years of shitty dialogue and low cut costumes was freaking hilarious. I hope the casting for the TV show is as conscientious. Ben Browder who not only starred in two s/f shows but also as Lee Majors in a TV movie would be perfect.

It's nice that they could play with all the tropes and clichés very common in SciFi, like the countdown stopping at 0:01, and senseless obstacles like the Chompers "This makes no logical sense!"

I'm sure they could do the same on a TV show. That ought to get them to episode 5.

That would be the obvious problem. But hey, five or six episodes of something that doesn't bore my ass to tears is worth four seasons of Stargate: Beyond Infinity.
It looks like Parisot, at least, has remained active in modern television. Don't know what Gordon may or may not have to contribute at this point.
Sounds interesting but I'm not sure how much they can explore sci-fi cliches without eventually running out of ideas.

There's also no reason to not do it as a 10-12 episode season...beyond financials to spread set and other costs against more episodes. You'd know better than me though.
^^^ I dunno. Shorter 8-episode "mini-seasons" seem to be gaining popularity lately (as opposed to the even shorter mini-series), including Galavant and Agent Carter. Don't know how many others follow this model or what the reasoning behind it is, but if they think they're going to run out of ideas for it quickly this may be the way to go.
