Things that frustrate us all

Well, you know you can buy packets of peanuts with the warning "MAY CONTAIN PEANUTS" (not making that up, BTW) so I think we may have finally tipped over the edge.

(And yes, I am well aware of the existence of peanut allergies and how serious it is. But come on...on a fucking packet of peanuts, they need a warning like that? :brickwall: )

Where is Wonko the Sane now that we really need him?

People who steadfastly refuse to believe something you say, regardless of how many times you say it - and offer irrefutable proof of what you are saying.

^ The "my mind is made up; don't try to confuse me with facts" approach.

That's when I just turn and walk away. Strangling them might get me in trouble.

Ask someone how far away a store or town is, and they say twenty minutes. So you still don't know the distance in miles. If you don't have a car, "twenty minutes" tells you nothing.

A twenty minute walk for me is about a mile, maybe a mile and half at a reasonable clip.
Yeah, but the twenty minutes they're telling me is how long it takes them by car. It takes me at least 30 minutes just to walk 3 blocks to the corner store and back for a soda.

My mistake then. I thought you weren't referring to just driving, but walking.

I steadfastly refuse to believe that ever happens....

Good one!:bolian:

Spammers, trolls, and flamers. Hiding behind a fake name and spewing shit. I just don't fucking get it. For the life of me, I just don't.

In Los Angeles, when we say something is X hours or minutes away, we mean travel time on the freeway. The mile or two of surface streets before and after doesn't count -- it's like the front driveway of your house.

My mistake then. I thought you weren't referring to just driving, but walking.
NOBODY walks in L.A.!

People who post lyric videos on Youtube and get the lyrics wrong, then don't have the integrity to pull them down and fix them.

Stop showing me how stupid you are and go show someone who cares.

Not very happy right now, just found out 4 plugs will have to be replaced and the wiring will have to be checked. Can't get any of them to work -_-. This was after my internet and cable went out. Got things up and running again, but for now I'll be without tv since the plug doesn't work.

He's making a joke about this song:

(Missing Persons -- Walking in L.A. video)
Actually I've never heard of the song. The idea that nobody walks in this city and Angelenos go everywhere by car is a very old joke, or meme, or whatever.

It is a very old song. I remember hearing it when it came out. I think it was bigger on MTV, when it still was MTV, because everyone liked checking her out in her skimpy costumes.

"Very old"? By me, the 1980s is recent history! :)

^Well, one of my old students used to refer the nineties as "old times" and Jurassic Park as an old movie.

Exactly! My first reaction was that nothing that first came out on MTV could possibly be "very old."
