NFL Offseason 2015 - Countdown to the first arrest

Report(s) about Chicago trading Cutler to Tennessee for the #2 pick (Mariota) seem to be picking up steam.

Jeez, how much more would have to be in that package to get the #2 overall pick? Not like that's an even swap. The QBs in the draft are interesting, too. Winston has the tools but is a knucklehead at best, and Mariota has the poise (although likely a little too quiet/passive), but not the reps in a NFL offense, so questions there.

Just laughing at the Browns giving up on manziel and going back to looking there. Classic shitty management, burning high draft capital on a bad asset, not even bothering to give him a chance, and then back to bad decisions. Everyone said not too, but he was the sexy pick, so gotta get him and win the news cycle on draft day. Now you're down a 1st round pick and looking for a QB again. Some of these teams just beat themselves before an opponent even gets a chance, SO happy to not be stuck with one of those teams as a fan.

So now, the Texans have JJ Watt, Wilfork, and Clowney on the same defense. Watt is Watt, Wilfork is still good as long as he doesn't have to many snaps, and Clowney is a bust.

 I'm not seeing much of a difference here from last year. Unless the Texans draft another defensive lineman with their 1st pick so they can put him on injured reserve as well.

Troy Polamalu announces his retirement. Glad he never considered playing for anyone but the black & gold.

It's been fun watching "the hair" for 12 years.

I look forward to his HOF induction in 5 years.

Not sure how to react to some of the articles, always felt Polamalu was a bit over-rated. Maybe I'm remembering too much of the broken down troy in later years that couldn't cover anyone OR hit anymore, but always felt like his hype was way bigger than his impact. Maybe he was on a bigger track at one point, and just fell apart later?

Dunno, just the HoF discussion seems a bit over the top, but maybe I'm wrong. If you could have anyone in their prime, just out of people that have played in the last 15 seasons or so, not sure how high Troy would be on my Safety list. Wouldn't you pick Ed Reed over him every time? Brian Dawkins? Rodney Harrison? Adrian Wilson? And that's just sticking with contemporaries. Just never felt like he was the HoF level talent, maybe he just didn't show up as often when playing the Patriots (admittedly, when I would have seen most of his performances played out).

Will admit he's the leader in NFL shampoo commercials, though. If you extend it to commercials overall, Peyton still has him smoked...

maybe it's just my brain fighting against the sliding scale for HoF, and the tendency for people to want to put everyone in. In my mind, Troy's more in the Hall of Very Good. One of the best ever? Feels like a stretch, although definitely a good player, and you'd be happy to have him on your team in his prime. Maybe the numbers say otherwise, just my gut reaction to this one and the immediate effort to enshrine him.

That's the problem in a nutshell. The hype machine hard at work. It's the age old argument of stuff like, he's a X time Pro Bowler! He deserves to be in the Hall.
I hate how people include shite like that into their reasoning. Just because a player is popular does not mean they're great. Or even all that good. How many PB's earn that spot from their play as opposed to someone else not being bothered to go?

On the plus side, the NFL is historically stingy withy their HoF votes. And not like the stupid BBWAA, it's taken seriously. About like electing a pope, gotta give speeches and defend your argument. A little too stingy at times, but less likely to let someone in due to popularity or great hair...

Aaron Hernandez found guilty of first-degree murder, automatically sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole.

I have to admit, a small part of me really wanted the blunt master defense to work.

Folks try to compare him and Ed Reed all the time. Not really a valid comparison.

Troy was a unique player, and just about everyone but you say he's a future HOF'er.

Ike Taylor hangs up his cleats after 12 years with the Black & Gold too...

The right choice I think for Ike.

Solid corner for most of that 12 years. Always covering the opposing team's #1.

Wish him the best.

I don't consider him a future HOF'er.

^ I was actually starting to think this one might not be a slam dunk but I'm glad I was wrong.

I don't know if it was a slam dunk, but it was apparently enough. Doesn't he have another charge pending?

It certainly wasn't a slam dunk, considering the prosecution had no witnesses, no murder weapon and managed to botch their way into getting nearly all of the really incriminating evidence excluded.

And, yes, Hernandez is still awaiting trial on a drive-by double homicide from 2012 (and they have a shit-ton of evidence against him in that case).

I'm no lawyer but it almost reads like the defense made the case for the prosecution. The jury was actually relieved that they placed him at the murder scene.

This is the defense that thought the blunt master argument made for an effective opening statement.

Defense has no obligation to present any evidence, I was interested in the evidence from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
