NFL Offseason 2015 - Countdown to the first arrest

I would be happy if the Rams brought Cutler in. I think he would fit nicely, and I think we could protect him, at least better than the Bears did.

The Bears have protected him OK the last couple years, at least a lot better than the previous years.

Cutler's problem is, he's a head case. Physically he's capable of being as good as anyone, but he makes stupid decisions, even when he has lots of time.

As far as Marshall, he's in decline and he's started going back to his bad ways (ie: running his mouth and being distracted with off-field stuff).

Briggs and Tillman are both out too, the Bears will not be re-signing either one. That's OK too, as they're both in serious physical decline.

I loved both these guys. But neither was as good as they were when they had more talent around them. Tillman's ball stripping skills were great when the rest of the D was great, but you can't afford to have 1 out of 11 guys only doing that one thing when the other 10 are average to pretty good.

Tillman wasn't too good at coverage or tackling, even at his best. And of course in Lovie's cover-2, where they let the receiver catch the ball, ball stripping was a great talent to have.

It was like when the Bulls were in their second championship run. Rodman could spend the whole game grabbing rebounds because the other guys on the floor were pretty much all amazing.

McCourty back to the Pats, 5/45ish. Good to see, if a little much. Hopefully they get Revis ironed out, and then can see about rolling the team back out and going again...

Multiple sources saying the Bears are actively shopping Cutler and would move him for a "reasonable return," and that they're players in trade discussion for Kaepernick.

Fucking Kaepernick. Kill me.

^Let me get this straight: the Bears don't want Cutler, who despite his inconsistent play last season still managed to put together one of the strongest statistical seasons of any Bears QB, but they're willing to take a flier on Kaepernick, who's clearly regressed since he entered the league.

I hope the Bears never win another game; any franchise stupid enough to blame its QB for every last one of its problems as a result of media pressure doesn't deserve to accomplish anything of significance ever again.

The Bears hired a GM who spent the last decade and a half with the Saints. Anyone who looks at the Saints' organization and says "Yeah, I want that for my team" deserves what they get.

Bradford going to the Eagles; Foles going to the Rams.

Seattle trades Unger and draft picks (including a first-rounder) to New Orleans for Jimmy Graham. (Holy shit, what a terrible trade for Seattle.)

Baltimore ships Ngata to Detroit for draft picks.

Did I miss something? What did Foles do to piss off Eagles' management? I thought he was supposed to be their guy.

Meanwhile, the Colts have apparently reached in agreement with Frank Gore. Although Gore's getting up there in age (32 is old for a runner), he won't have to carry the load offensively with Luck under center. If he can provide solid production in the backfield--which would be a huge upgrade over the combined ineptitude of Richardson, Herron, Ballard and Bradshaw (one is a bust; another is a backup, and two can't stay on the field)--things might get interesting at the top of the AFC.

Ugh, looks like Revis back to the Jets. Waiting to see the terms, but frustrating watching Belichick work sometimes...

You'll probably feel better when you see the price tag. I have no doubt the Jets are going to pony up an unholy amount of money.

I have no idea what their reason was, but I doubt it was a personality conflict. Might have to do with him having feet of lead or a poor season last year, but I suspect there has to be a bigger plan.

Looks like Kelly's clearing all inherited bodies. Don't know why he wanted a 2 time ACL recipient though?

Eh. 5/70, 40 or so guaranteed. If you assume the year or two on the end is 'fake', then it's well within what should have been paid. Not sure what they were clearing money for if they keep refusing to spend it. Went from one of the better secondaries right back to mediocre there....

While annoying, he's certainly earned the right to his big payday. Atleast it's to the Jets and not to a supposed strong playoff contender. Though if your Revis, besides getting every last dollar, why the hell would you want to go back to that dumpster fire of a team?? It baffles me.

And BB's offseasons are always like this it feels like. But we both know the guy knows what he's doing. It's always hand mashing and frustration in March and 12-15 wins by January.

Foles for Bradford....

"In the deal, the Eagles also sent a fourth-round draft pick in 2015 and a second-round pick in 2016 to the Rams. The Eagles get the Rams' fifth-round pick in 2015."

This seems very odd to me, and I'm not the only one:

"I feel like I'm missing something with this deal, because I don't see any benefit for the Eagles. Foles has been the more productive NFL quarterback. Bradford doesn't seem to fit what Kelly does on offense, especially after two major knee injuries. Bradford's base salary in 2015 in a bit less than $13 million, while Foles makes about $1.52 million, according to OverTheCap.com.

So the Eagles might not be getting the best quarterback in the deal (even if you prefer Bradford, it's a lot harder to sell that when Bradford is recovering from a second straight ACL surgery), have to pay Bradford more than eight times what Foles will make, and on top of that they're giving up better picks than the Rams did. Huh?"

I'm not sure Foles is significantly better than Bradford, but this is a pretty good deal. Getting rid of Bradford's salary will hopefully open some possibilities....

Cutting Browner doesn't make any sense in light of this, but the Patriots really didn't have any ability to massage the cap for that level of guaranteed money. They would have needed to cut Amendola and Mayo to have any flexibility whatsoever, and they still would have needed that room for draft picks and organizational filler. But ultimately, once the Jets offer leaked a few days ago (surely no tampering there), the Patriots were out; I truly believe Revis never wanted to leave New York -- he didn’t force his way out in 2013, and he was fairly open about wanting to return last year.

It is remarkable that this is the fourth time Revis has cashed in huge after his rookie deal, all in his 20s, which has to be some sort of a record.

Not sure why they are down on Foles, but maybe it's because Chip is so up on Bradford. You have to wonder about the durability thing though.

I think Gore to the Colts is probably the best sign so far on the offensive side of the ball.

He needs to right a book? :D

Good on him.
