Marvel films: Is She-Hulk a possibility?

She-Hulk the character was introduced in the early 80's, with Bruce Banner giving a blood transfusion to his injured lawyer cousin, Jennifer Walters, which turned her into a "She" Hulk While initially sort of semi-savage, the character later kept the same identity and intelligence of her human form (Which was sometimes written out). Also, gradually her Hulkiness appearence-often with ripped clothes and messy 'salad' hair like her cousin-was toned down and (especially under Bryne) she appeared as more feminine (Although green and fairly muscular).She later became a noted 'replacement' member of the Fantastic Four when the Thing left for a while (and had a relationship with the Human Torch's friend, Wyatt Wingfoot), but has been an off-and-on Avenger for quite a while, as well as ocassionally teaming up with, or fighting, her cousin, most recently in "The Incredible Hulks". She also has had a few series of her own-the longest lasting being the (Very satirical) late 80s/early 90s Sensational She-Hulk (Started by John Bryne no less).

Recently, two other She-Hulks were also introduced, Lyra, Bruce's daughter from the future or something, and a Red version, who was revealed to be the ressurected version of Bruce Banner's estranged wife, Betty Ross.

But how would she work in a film? It's been tried or suggested a few times-the Bridgette Nielsen makeup tests, an idea for a fourth Bixby TV movie, some appearences in drafts of the Hulk films etc....

Also how should she be realized? She-Hulk basically appears far more human than the regular Hulk, although as mentioned, tall and muscular. Maybe have her human form be realized using the same technique that 'shrank' Chris Evans for the first part of Captain America, with the actress playing She-Hulk in green makeup or something? Worked enough for Zoe Saldana as Gamora (The green makeup I mean).


And who could play her? Angie Harmon has lobbied for the role, possibly because she has experience playing lawyers and is fairly tall and muscular. And in what film would she debut? Avengers? Defenders/Netflix? Shield TV show? A future Hulk project?

Angie Harmon, muscular? That's news to me. I have always thought of her as lean.
If I was casting by physical traits similar to but not quite on par with those prerequisites, and not acting ability, I'd go with Jess Biel.
Not tall, but definitely got the physique.

Isn't that always the wrong track? You start with a decent actress and then pump them full of steroids - not worry if they are already in the right shape...

As for AH - too old, a She-Hulk movie is likely at least 5 years off and they aren't going to cast a near-50 year old.

Sure, I suppose that it's a possibility, but as we've seen Marvel's slate for the next several years, it wouldn't be any time soon.

But consider that The Incredible Hulk wasn't exactly Marvel's greatest hit. Marvel hasn't even given it a sequel, why would they give it a spin-off?

Personally, I'd rather see a Ruffalo/Hulk movie (Not "Planet Hulk").

That seems the more likely option, especially if the Daredevil/AKA Jessica Jones/Luke Cage/Defenders series are successful.

Indeed, if they approach the streaming shows the way they've approached the movies, I could very easily see the likes of She-Hulk, Elektra and Punisher being part of a "phase two".

She-Hulk's recent run is on my list of things to read (mostly because she finally meets Daredevil, for the first time, to my knowledge). But, considering how little attention the Hulk gets, I wonder if she's worth much just yet. She has a deliberate devil-may-care attitude that doesn't seem like it'll fit in on the Netflix shows (but would fit in with Agents of SHIELD). But, with AoS, she obviously wouldn't be the star. If they brought back the One Shots, that could be fun.

Dunno. Would be worth thinking about, but it's hard to think of a great answer. My personal preference is for Jessica Drew to pop up first.

On a side topic, there are two lawyers in the MU, but are there any practicing doctors left? Dr. Donald Blake is just Thor now (or I guess not that, but not Blake right now). Is Steven Strange still a medical doctor? It seems there's room for another professional character who's a superhero.

Strange is a supernatural doctor. There is also Night Nurse and Brother Voodoo. And Blake can come back or not depending on the writer.

A show based on the more recent runs could work as a comedy. Have her deal with court cases that come up from having a universe of superheroes and just have fun with it.

Well, I got curious about this as well, so I did some research. I quickly saw that Daredevil showed up in Fantastic Four #281 (August 1985) while She-Hulk was a member, but she was the only FF member he didn't interact with.

So, I kept looking. So far, the closest I can get to a meeting is various times they've both been involved in Event Comics. The first example of that I can find is Contest of Champions #1 (1982), where they were both on The Grandmaster's team

We never see them talking together, though. I also found them together in Fantastic Four #367 (from 1992), where they are both in the same room with a bunch of other heroes

and in #368 they're right next to each other

So in the comic universe we can be pretty sure that they met way before they first met in court, probably during Contest of Champions. I'm sure they probably had dialog together at some point before the recently ended she-Hulk series, but I've about exhausted how much research I can do, short of finding every comic they were both in. I'm pretty sure he never showed up any of her other series, since I've read all of them. As a big She-Hulk fan not being able to figure this out this will probably annoy me for awhile It feels obvious that the two lawyer heroes must had at least talked in a comic before 2014, but I can't find it.

She-Hulk is no more a psychotic, murderous, whiny moron than Wonder Woman is, so with that in mind she definitely wouldn't work with what we've seen from Kelly when it comes to superheroes.

Based on the Wonder Woman pilot, the character Kelly should write for is Typhoid Mary. A violent psychopath who has multiple personalities, none of them particularly heroic but with a definite taste for violence, matches his Wonder Woman story perfectly.

Seriously though, She-Hulk, if she ever got a show, needs a good writer who can balance humor with serious stuff. Something more like GotG than Daredevil in tone. A bit more serious could work, but by that I mean Captain America or Iron Man level of seriousness. David E. Kelly isn't the guy, and should never be allowed near a superhero again.

There was a one-season animated series called "Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H." and it's currently running on Netflix. Eliza Dushku voices the character of She-Hulk.
